Psychometric properties of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) Pediatric Anger Scale in the Dutch general population.
This study aimed to validate the PROMIS® pediatric v2.0 Anger scale in the Dutch general population, provide reference data, and compare reliability and relative efficiency between the full-length scale, its short-form, computerized adaptive test (CAT), and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM) emotional functioning (EF) subscale scores. Children (N = 1,328), representative of the Dutch population, were asked to complete the PROMIS pediatric Anger scale (8-18 years) and PedsQLTM (8-17 years). A graded response model (GRM) was fit to the data. ⋯ Reliable measurements were obtained at the population mean and >2SD in the clinically relevant direction. CAT outperformed all other measures in efficiency. The PROMIS pediatric Anger scale displayed sufficient psychometric properties within the Dutch population and reference data are available. Beyond the thin ideal: Development and validation of the Fit Ideal Internalization Test (FIIT) for women.
[Correction Notice: An Erratum for this article was reported in Vol 32(2) of Psychological Assessment (see record 2020-04120-001). In the article, there are two errors in the Method section for Study 2. First, in the "Body dissatisfaction" subsection, the range of total scores for the Body-Image Ideals Questionnaire was incorrectly listed as being "between 0 and 99." The correct range is from - 3 to 9. ⋯ The 3-factor structure of the FIIT was confirmed, and findings supported convergent, discriminant, and incremental validity of the FIIT subscale scores (and a total score). In Study 3 (N = 67, age 17-50), the 2-week test-retest reliability of the FIIT scores was high. Overall, the 3 FIIT subscales are related but also distinct domains of fit ideal internalization that conform to theory and may be used as individual subscales or potentially as a composite score. ReviewLeveraging the Open Science Framework in clinical psychological assessment research.
The last decade has seen enormous advances in research transparency in psychology. One of these advances has been the creation of a common interface for openness across the sciences-the Open Science Framework (OSF). ⋯ We use several studies from our lab to illustrate the uses of the OSF for psychological studies, as well as the process of implementing this tool in assessment research. Among these studies are an archival assessment study, a project using an extensive unpublished assessment battery, and one in which we developed a short-form assessment instrument. Erroneous conclusions: The impact of failing to identify invalid symptom presentation when conducting adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) research.
Invalid symptom report during assessment confounds the differential diagnosis process. This study examined differences in neuropsychological functioning between individuals diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and depression and/or anxiety disorders before and after participants meeting diagnostic criteria for malingered neurocognitive dysfunction were excluded. One hundred sixty-one adult patients undergoing ADHD assessment [M age 27.98 (8.35)] were evaluated and assigned to one of two groups based on medical records, a clinical interview, and self-report measures (depression/anxiety disorder n = 85; ADHD and depression/anxiety disorders n = 76). ⋯ Additionally, the magnitude of association between self-report of ADHD symptoms and performance on neuropsychological test measures decreased dramatically. Thus, it is imperative that researchers administer performance and symptom validity measures to identify invalid symptom presentation when conducting large-scale studies. The failure to do so may result in inaccurate conclusions regarding the neurocognitive functioning of patients with ADHD and comorbid conditions. Successful validation of the CAT-MH Scales in a sample of Latin American migrants in the United States and Spain.
We examined cultural differences in the item characteristic functions of self-reported of symptoms of depression, anxiety, and mania-hypomania in a Latino population taking Computerized Adaptive Tests for Mental Health (CAT-MH) in Spanish versus a non-Latino sample taking the tests in English. We studied differential item functioning (DIF) of the most common adaptively administered symptom items out of a bank of 1,008 items between Latino (n = 1276) and non-Latino (n = 798) subjects. For depression, we identified 4 items with DIF that were good discriminators for non-Latinos but poor discriminators for Latinos. ⋯ The correlation between the original and new calibration was r = .962. Once the identified items were removed, the correlation between the original calibration and a Latino-only calibration was r = .96 or greater. These findings reveal that the CAT-MH can be reliably used to measure depression, anxiety, and mania in Latinos taking these tests in Spanish.
