Goat's milk (GM) allergy not associated with allergy to cow's milk (CM) is a rare disorder. Caseins have been implicated has the major allergens eliciting symptoms. ⋯ Allergens other than casein can be involved in allergy to GM. Even small quantities of protein can elicit symptoms.

Comparative Study Controlled Clinical TrialSpecific immunotherapy is effective in the prevention of new sensitivities.
Allergen specific immunotherapy is the only specific and curative approach in the treatment of IgE-mediated allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis. The safety and clinical efficacy of this treatment are well documented but data on the prevention of new sensitizations remain scarce. ⋯ Our data demonstrate that administration of specific immunotherapy in allergic patients significantly reduced symptoms and the development of new sensitivities.

Role of viruses and atypical bacteria in asthma exacerbations among children in Oporto (Portugal).
Upper respiratory tract infections are known to be a significant precipitant of acute asthma exacerbations. The aim of this study was to evaluate seasonal trends and the role of these pathogens in asthma exacerbations in school-aged children from Oporto (Portugal). ⋯ These results confirm the previously reported high frequency of rhinovirus detection in asthma exacerbations in children and provide evidence that asthma exacerbations and rhinovirus infections follow a seasonal pattern, occurring mostly in spring and autumn. The findings also underscore the frequency of Mycoplasma pneumoniae detection, and emphasize the importance of this agent as a possible trigger of asthma exacerbations.

Sensitization in early age to food allergens in children with atopic dermatitis.
Clinical and laboratory evidence increasingly supports the notion that food allergy plays a role in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD). However, the prevalence of clinically significant food hypersensitivity among children with AD remains an unanswered question. ⋯ A high prevalence of food sensitization was found in infants with AD. The most frequent sensitization observed was to egg, although with little clinical relevance since this food had not been introduced into the diet. In the sample studied, the clinical relevance of the observed food hypersensitivities was confirmed in relation to AD. Further studies are required to confirm these results.

Case ReportsChildhood tuberculosis diagnosed and managed as asthma: case report.
The worldwide incidence of tuberculosis (TB) has been increasing. Although its diagnosis is well established in adults, in children it is difficult due to its particular aspects. ⋯ Chest X-rays (CXR) showed heterogeneous condensation in medium lobe and the chest computerized-tomography scan (CCT) a heterogeneous increase in pulmonary transparency, like condensation in the same lobe. After four months of treatment with anti tuberculosis agents, a significant improvement in symptoms, normal CXR, absence of pulmonary medium lobe condensation, and persistence fibro-atelectatic band in lingula were observed.
