ReviewEvaluation and management of steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome.
This review examines new literature published in 2006 and 2007 on steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome. ⋯ Progress has been made towards elucidating the cause of steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome. Data from adequately powered randomized controlled trials are still required to evaluate therapies for frequently relapsing and steroid-dependent steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome.

ReviewEnzyme reconstitution/replacement therapy for lysosomal storage diseases.
Over the past 15 years, the lysosomal storage diseases have become paradigms for the specific treatment of monogenic disorders, particularly those affecting children. This review summarizes the phenotypes and recent literature regarding enzyme reconstitution (replacement) therapy and outcomes for such treatable lysosomal storage diseases: Gaucher disease, Fabry disease, Pompe disease and the mucopolysaccharidoses. ⋯ Enzyme reconstitution therapy is a safe and effective treatment modality available for several of the lysosomal storage diseases. Owing to the short history of enzyme reconstitution therapy, the long-term outcomes of enzyme reconstitution therapy-treated individuals are unknown and require further investigation. Medical professionals must learn to identify patients likely to benefit from these life-changing therapies so as to prevent many of the devastating, irreversible complications of the lysosomal storage diseases.

ReviewPsychological factors affecting pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.
Psychological factors affecting pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, intervention and other therapeutic resources are reviewed. ⋯ The scant existing research limits conclusions about which children are most at risk for experiencing problems. Future research should investigate a range of psychosocial outcomes and risk factors for developing problems. Prevention and intervention strategies aimed at improving psychosocial functioning in children with inflammatory bowel disease should be developed and evaluated.

ReviewAttention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and pediatric burn injury: important considerations regarding premorbid risk.
The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the literature on the effects of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder on pediatric burn injury, to identify specific considerations and trends relevant to this topic, and to call attention to areas for future research. ⋯ Information regarding the risk of burn injury in children with symptoms of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is gradually gaining more attention. There is continued need for further investigation in this area, as well as critical assessment of intervention programs for this subgroup of individuals.
