ReviewAcute kidney injury associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are ones of the commonly prescribed drugs worldwide. They primarily inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme which is responsible for conversion of phospholipids to various prostaglandins (PGs). Disruption in PGs production affects the kidneys in several ways, including vasoconstriction that may result in ischemic acute kidney injury (AKI) in at-risk patients. ⋯ Other complications include hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, nephrotic syndrome, acute interstitial nephritis and chronic kidney disease progression. AKI from NSAIDs is usually reversible with favorable prognosis after discontinuation of NSAIDs. Avoidance of NSAIDs exposure is extremely important, especially among high-risk patients.

Impact of eGFR rate on 1-year all-cause mortality in patients with stable coronary artery disease.
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of mortality and is often complicated by chronic kidney disease. We sought to investigate the prevalence of different degree of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) reduction, the clinical and bio-humoral correlates, its relationship with therapeutic management, and its predictive role on 1-year all-cause mortality, in patients with stable CAD. ⋯ Low eGFR is associated with an increasing risk of all-cause mortality in patients with stable CAD. Chronic kidney disease may hamper the optimization of treatment limiting the use of drugs which may favorably impact cardiovascular and renal outcomes.

A prediction model for central venous catheter-related thrombosis in patients with newly-diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia: A derivation cohort analysis.
Catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) is a common complication in cancer patients, that may lead to chemotherapy deferral, elevated risk for systemic infections and pulmonary embolism. This study aimed to assess CRT incidence and risk factors in newly-diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients and create predictive models potentially allowing to decrease CRT occurrence in this population. ⋯ Significant CRT risk factors defined using the created model could be used for identification of high-risk newly-diagnosed AML patients requiring CRT prophylaxis.

Hepatitis C Elimination in the Netherlands (CELINE): How nationwide retrieval of lost to follow-up hepatitis C patients contributes to micro-elimination.
The number of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected patients who have been lost to follow-up (LTFU) is high and threatens HCV elimination. Micro-elimination focusing on the LTFU population is a promising strategy for low-endemic countries like the Netherlands (HCV prevalence 0.16%). We therefore initiated a nationwide retrieval project in the Netherlands targeting LTFU HCV patients. ⋯ Our nationwide micro-elimination strategy accurately mapped the ever-diagnosed HCV population in the Netherlands and indicates that 27% of LTFU HCV-infected patients re-linked to care have advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis. This emphasizes the potential value of systematic retrieval for HCV elimination.
