Iron deficiency and all-cause mortality after myocardial infarction.
Data on the clinical significance of iron deficiency (ID) in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) are conflicting. This may be related to the use of various ID criteria. We aimed to compare the association of different ID criteria with all-cause mortality after MI. ⋯ Iron deficiency is common among patients with the first MI. The PragueID criteria based on iron and soluble transferrin receptor levels provide the best prediction of mortality and should be evaluated in future interventional studies for the identification of patients potentially benefiting from intravenous iron therapy.

Most Hypertension Guidelines grade hypertension according to various cut-off values. We sought to investigate the prognostic impact of Grades 1 (140-159 and/or 90-99 mmHg), 2 (160-179 and/or 100-109 mmHg) and 3 (≥180 and/or ≥110 mmHg). ⋯ We were unable to find a significant difference in the relative hazard of cardiovascular events tied to hypertension Grades 1 and 2. Conversely, Grade 3 (clinic BP ≥180/110 mmHg) portends a higher cardiovascular risk, which is associated with higher levels of 24-hour ambulatory BP.

Meta AnalysisCardio-protective effects of statins in patients undergoing anthracycline-based chemotherapy: An updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Several interventions have been tested for cardio-protection against anthracycline-induced cancer therapy-related cardiovascular dysfunction (CTRCD). The role of statins in this setting remains unclear. ⋯ In this meta-analysis of RCTs, statins were significantly associated with a lower incidence of anthracycline-induced CTRCD and attenuated changes in the left ventricular end-systolic volume. Thus, our findings suggest that statins should be considered as a cardio-protection strategy for patients with planned anthracycline-based chemotherapy.

Multicenter StudyConsecutive or selectively included high bleeding risk patients in the MASTER DAPT screening log and trial.
Screening logs have the potential to appraise the actual prevalence and distribution of predefined patient subsets, avoiding selection biases, which are inevitably and potentially present in randomised trials and real-world registries, respectively. We aimed to assess the prevalence of high bleeding risk (HBR) characteristics in the real world and the external validity of the MASTER DAPT trial. ⋯ The HBR criteria distribution differed between consecutive versus selectively included HBR patients, suggesting the existence of selection biases in the trial population.
