Clinically relevant bleeding according to location of metastases in cancer-associated thrombosis.
Patients with cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) face a heightened risk of clinically relevant bleeding (CRB). However, the relationship between these risks and the location of metastasis remains unclear. ⋯ The bleeding rate seem differ depending on the location of metastasis. Additionally, lung metastasis was found to be associated with a long-term risk of CRB. These findings may justify the use of low dose of anticoagulation, although clinical trials need to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of this strategy.

Observational StudyExternal validation of a prognostic score to identify low-risk outpatients with acute deep venous thrombosis in the lower limbs.
Current clinical guidelines suggest home treatment for patients diagnosed with acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT). A prognostic score has been proposed to identify low-risk patients; however, its validation remains limited. ⋯ This study demonstrates the efficacy of the prognostic score in identifying low-risk outpatients with acute DVT. It also suggests that a considerable proportion of patients with acute DVT may benefit from outpatient treatment despite having some risk criteria, highlighting the potential for optimizing ambulatory care pathways.

Observational StudyEvaluations of metabolic and innate immunity profiles in subjects with familial hypercholesterolemia with or without subclinical atherosclerosis.
Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic condition characterized by high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). The presence of risk modifiers could promote the atherosclerotic injury beyond LDL-C. Our aim was to evaluate metabolic and innate immunity profiles in FH subjects with or without subclinical atherosclerosis. ⋯ An increased LCB and an impaired innate immunity profile were found in FH subjects with subclinical atherosclerosis and they were independently associated with atherosclerotic injury. LCB could modulate the innate immunity profile.
