Observational StudyTracheal intubation in patients with anticipated difficult airway using Boedeker intubation forceps and McGrath videolaryngoscope.
Videolaryngoscopes with sharp angulated blades improve the view of the vocal cords but this does not necessarily result in higher success rates of intubation The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of using Boedeker intubation forceps in conjunction with McGrath Series 5 Videolaryngoscope (MVL) in patients with predictors for difficult intubation. ⋯ Most patients with anticipated difficult intubation can be successfully intubated with Boedeker intubation forceps and MVL. However, endotracheal tube placement failed in 3/25 patients despite a good laryngeal view.

Stress index for positive end-expiratory pressure titration in prone position: a piglet study.
Prone position ventilation is an important treatment for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), but chest wall elastance increases in prone position ventilation, and stress index may not reflect the changes in lung mechanics. We therefore investigated the effects of stress index guided PEEP titration on pulmonary mechanics and hemodynamics in the prone position in a piglet acute lung injury model. ⋯ Stress index can be used to titrate PEEP in the prone position in a surfactant-depleted lung injury model.

Does previous chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting predict postoperative nausea and vomiting?
Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) remains a problem in the postoperative period. Previous PONV in oncology patients has recently been associated with chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). We assessed if CINV could improve Apfel's heuristic for predicting PONV. ⋯ A history of chemotherapy-induced nausea vomiting was a strong predictor for PONV and should be investigated as an added risk factor for PONV in the preoperative period of oncology surgery in prospective studies.
