Agents intervening against delirium in the intensive care unit (AID-ICU) trial-protocol for a secondary Bayesian analysis.
Delirium is highly prevalent in the intensive care unit (ICU) and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. The antipsychotic haloperidol is the most frequently used agent to treat delirium although this is not supported by solid evidence. The agents intervening against delirium in the intensive care unit (AID-ICU) trial investigates the effects of haloperidol versus placebo for the treatment of delirium in adult ICU patients. ⋯ The results of this secondary, pre-planned Bayesian analysis will complement the primary frequentist analysis of the AID-ICU trial and facilitate a nuanced and probabilistic interpretation of the trial results.

Randomized Controlled TrialSenicapoc treatment in COVID-19 Patients with Severe Respiratory Insufficiency - A Randomized, Open-Label, Phase II Trial.
The aim of the current study was to determine if treatment with senicapoc, improves the PaO2 /FiO2 ratio in patients with COVID-19 and severe respiratory insufficiency. ⋯ Treatment with senicapoc resulted in a significantly lower PaO2 /FiO2 ratio at 72 h with no differences for other outcomes.

International Initiation and Termination of Resuscitation Practices.
Substantial variation in survival following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is described both internationally and nationally. The Utstein factors account for half of the variation, but the remaining is not fully understood. Local regulations or guidelines concerning the withholding and termination of resuscitation may influence the reporting of cardiac arrests when comparing outcomes between different Emergency Medical Service systems. ⋯ This survey could be of importance in understanding the multiple factors leading to the substantial variation in survival found following OHCA. Furthermore, the interpretation of future studies on OHCA from different settings may be improved to further increase survival following OHCA.

Observational StudyEffects of Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis on Anesthetic Implications in Children with Hemifacial Microsomia.
Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) is a congenital craniofacial malformation, and its features include hypoplasia and asymmetry in skeletal tissue and soft tissue. These features are usually associated with a difficult airway. Mandibular distraction osteogenesis can achieve mandibular advancement, but its effect on the subsequent laryngoscopic views has not been adequately documented. ⋯ MDO can improve the laryngoscopic views in children with HFM. According to the Pruzansky-Kaban classification, children with type IIb showed the highest incidence of difficult laryngoscopy before MDO. After MDO, the improvement in laryngoscopic views under direct laryngoscopy in type IIb was related to the increase in the palatopharyngeal and glossopharyngeal volume.

Observational StudyThe use of melatonin in Danish intensive care departments - a nationwide observational study.
Melatonin is widely employed as a hypnotic in various patient groups. In intensive care patients, melatonin seems to be increasingly used due to potential clinical effects and a favourable safety profile. ⋯ This study documents that melatonin is frequently used as a hypnotic in Danish intensive care units during recent years despite a shortage of reliable evidence to support a recommendation to treat with melatonin in this context. These results support a need for conducting clinical trials to determine whether or not there is a beneficial effect of melatonin treatment in critically ill patients.
