Multicenter StudyPaediatric abusive head trauma in the emergency department: A multicentre prospective cohort study.
Abusive head trauma (AHT) is associated with high morbidity and mortality. We aimed to describe characteristics of cases where clinicians suspected AHT and confirmed AHT cases and describe how they differed. ⋯ Emergency department presentations of children with suspected and confirmed AHT had higher rates of loss of consciousness, scalp haematomas, seizures and low Glasgow coma scale. These cases were at increased risk of abnormal computed tomography scans, need for intensive care and death.

Multicenter StudyOral dextrose gel to treat neonatal hypoglycaemia: Clinician survey.
To determine the use of oral dextrose gel to treat neonatal hypoglycaemia in New Zealand (NZ), to identify barriers and enablers to the implementation of the guideline and to determine if there is variation in management between clinical disciplines caring for at-risk babies. ⋯ Oral dextrose gel is widely used to treat neonatal hypoglycaemia in NZ. Increasing availability of dextrose gel and the clinical practice guideline are likely to further increase the use of oral dextrose gel.

Multicenter StudyBlood transfusion for anaemia of prematurity: Current practice in Australia and New Zealand.
To characterise the current transfusion practice among clinicians in Australasian neonatal units and factors that influence their decision-making. ⋯ There is a significant variation in transfusion practice in Australasian neonatal units. Quality and safety initiatives may assist with improved consistency of transfusion practice across the ANZNN. However, further research is required to better define optimal transfusion thresholds, quantify potential risks of transfusion and determine clinical utility of newer adjuncts such as NIRS.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyPenetrating head injuries in children presenting to the emergency department in Australia and New Zealand: A PREDICT prospective study.
Penetrating head injuries (pHIs) are associated with high morbidity and mortality. Data on pHIs in children outside North America are limited. We describe the mechanism of injuries, neuroimaging findings, neurosurgery and mortality for pHIs in Australia and New Zealand. ⋯ Paediatric pHIs are very rare in EDs in Australia and New Zealand but are associated with high morbidity and mortality. The absence of firearm-related injuries compared to North America is striking and may reflect Australian and New Zealand firearm regulations.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyEarly initiated feeding versus early reached target enteral nutrition in critically ill children: An observational study in paediatric intensive care units in Turkey.
Although early enteral nutrition (EN) is strongly associated with lower mortality in critically ill children, there is no consensus on the definition of early EN. The aim of this study was to evaluate our current practice supplying EN and to identify factors that affect both the initiation of feeding within 24 h after paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission and the adequate supply of EN in the first 48 h after PICU admission in critically ill children. ⋯ There is a substantial variability among clinicians' perceptions regarding indications for delay to initiate enteral feeding in critically ill children, especially after the first 6 h of PICU admission. ERTEN, but not EIF, is associated with a significantly lower mortality rate in critically ill children.
