Impact of paediatric tonsillectomy perioperative management on pain, nausea and recovery: A prospective cohort study.
Tonsillectomy procedures are a core element of paediatrics; however, perioperative management differs. This study aimed to describe tonsillectomy management, including the burden of pain, nausea and delayed recovery. ⋯ There was variety in perioperative and post-discharge care. Pain scores were infrequently documented post-tonsillectomy, and parents are generally dissatisfied with the management of post-operative pain and nausea. Further research is needed to provide a more consistent approach to perioperative management to promote recovery.

Management and outcomes of patients presenting to the emergency department with croup: Can we identify which patients can safely be discharged from the emergency department?
Croup is a major cause of emergency department (ED) presentations, but there remains a paucity of evidence to guide clinical decision-making around which patients require admission. We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics, management and outcomes of patients presenting to the ED with croup and to identify characteristics associated with a need for further intervention. ⋯ Only 19% of patients admitted following two doses of nebulised adrenaline in the ED required further interventions. Older patients without a chronic medical condition who have a normal heart rate, temperature and no stridor may be suitable for outpatient management.

Paediatric emergency department presentations due to feeding tube complications in children with cerebral palsy.
To describe the characteristics of emergency department (ED) presentations due to complications from gastrostomy or gastrojejunal feeding tubes among children with cerebral palsy (CP), the complexity of complications and the management approaches taken. ⋯ Most ED presentations due to feeding tube complaints in children with CP are in children with severe gross motor impairment but are able to be managed in the ED. As such, it is likely that care givers and other health professionals could manage some of the complications experienced in primary health-care settings closer to home.

Improving the quality of hospital care for Indigenous adolescents: Experiences from the Top End.
A recent Lancet publication reported the substantial and largely unmet health needs of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) adolescents; needs that we have been working tirelessly to address in the Northern Territory. In order to improve health outcomes for Indigenous adolescents, we must create health systems responsive to their needs. This paper focuses on changes made at Royal Darwin Hospital, which continue to improve the quality of care for this group. We describe these changes here, to celebrate the gains made and ultimately, we hope, to help address the health of Indigenous adolescents more broadly.
