Nasal Alar Pressure Ulcer After Orthognathic Surgery: Clinical Presentation and Preventive Recommendations.
Nasotracheal intubation is routinely used in patients undergoing oral and maxillofacial surgery when intermaxillary fixation is needed either intraoperatively or postoperative. Various complications can occur such as epistaxis, turbinectomy, retropharyngeal dissection, tympanites, and nasal alar pressure sores or necrosis, especially when there is a prolonged nasotracheal intubation. The first report of a nasal alar necrosis after prolonged nasotracheal intubation was published by Hatcher et al in 1968. ⋯ They may be painful and can cause a cosmetic problem for patients. The literature has several studies of nasal alar necrosis after nasotracheal intubation for head and neck reconstructive surgery, but there is no description of this complication after orthognathic surgery. This paper describes the occurrence of skin nasal alar necrosis following a bimaxillary jaw correction and highlights recommendations for its management and prevention.

Protuberant fibro-osseous lesion of the temporal bone, otherwise known as "Bullough's lesion", is a rare, benign exophytic fibro-osseous tumor. In this brief report, we present a case of a 61-year-old woman with a history of a right-sided skull mass that had been increasing in size for approximately 6 years before presentation. Clinical, radiological and histological features are examined and discussed. We achieved excellent results with surgical resection, with no evidence of recurrence.

The aim of this study was to assess the maxillofacial injuries (MFIs) and our surgical approaches in the Syrian Civil War that emerged during the spring of 2011, among Syria's government and Syrians. ⋯ Severity and incidence of MFIs were extremely high compared with previously published studies of other wars, especially affecting the civilians in the Syrian Civil War. The high rates of LeFort III fractures exhibit its devastating damages on civilians.
