Multicenter StudyAcetabular fracture assessment in four different pelvic trauma centers: have the Judet views become superfluous?
The present study was designed to examine whether oblique radiographs (Judet views) in addition to 2D and 3D CT scans improved the intra- and interobserver reliability when assessing acetabular fractures. ⋯ The moderate agreement found for the Letournel classification is to be expected given the complexity of the classification. The addition of oblique radiographs to the image sets does not seem to improve the reliability and thus its routine use for classification and decision making may be debated.

Randomized Controlled TrialDoes intraoperative application of leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma during arthroscopy for knee degeneration affect postoperative pain, function and quality of life? A 12-month randomized controlled double-blind trial.
We aimed to identify the effects of intraoperative applied leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma (LP-PRP) during knee arthroscopy for degenerative lesions involving pain, function and quality of life. ⋯ NCT02189408.

Patient-reported outcome assessment after total joint replacement: comparison of questionnaire completion times on paper and tablet computer.
Patient-reported outcome (PRO) assessment is becoming increasingly important after joint replacement surgery. However, PRO data collection, questionnaire handling, and data processing are time consuming and costly process. The aim of our study was to evaluate the efficiency of PRO assessment using tablet computers compared with traditional paper questionnaires in a total hip or knee arthroplasty (THR or TKR) population. ⋯ Electronic PRO data collection can substantially decrease time, logistics, and effort associated with questionnaire completion in daily clinical practice. It is also acceptable for use in an older arthroplasty population.

Titanium-nickel shape memory alloy (Ti-Ni SMA) is characterized by shape-memory effect, super-elasticity, excellent fatigue behavior, corrosion resistance, acceptable biocompatibility and high damping capacity. ⋯ The Ti-Ni SMA-claw fixator produced good osteosynthesis effect by continuous recovery stress with relatively simple and minimally invasive handling process, which can be introduced as an alternative to traditional tension band technique for treatment of patellar transverse fracture.

Cast-treated distal radius fractures: a prospective cohort study of radiological outcomes and their association with impaired calcaneal bone mineral density.
We hypothesized that treating distal radius fractures with cast only or closed reduction and cast is associated with high malunion risk and that the risk is higher in patients with low bone mineral density (BMD). ⋯ Closed reduction and cast is not an effective treatment for distal radius fractures if radiological graphic outcomes are considered. There is a higher risk of malunion involving dorsal and radial tilt in patients with osteoporosis. Calcaneal BMD measurement may have some benefit in predicting the risk of severe malunion.
