Prospective clinical and radiostereometric analysis of the Fitmore short-stem total hip arthroplasty.
Uncemented short, curved femoral stems may help save proximal bone stock during total hip arthroplasty (THA) and facilitate insertion in minimal invasive surgery. The aim of this 2 year, prospective, single-center study was to examine the stability and migration of the Fitmore (®) stem in THA using model-based radiostereometric analysis (RSA), and thus predict the implant's long-term survival. In addition, we evaluated the stem's clinical performance using standard clinical measures. ⋯ We conclude that the Fitmore Hip Stem stabilizes after 3 months and achieves good short-term clinical results in most cases.

The effect of local bone density on mechanical failure after internal fixation of pertrochanteric fractures.
The aim of this prospective study was to investigate the effect of local hip bone density on mechanical failure after fixation of pertrochanteric fractures and to establish possible risk factors for the failures. ⋯ Local hip bone density does not appear to have a significant influence on mechanical failure after internal fixation of pertrochanteric fractures. Stable fractures and fractures with good reduction are expected to obtain satisfactory outcomes.

Technical errors and complications in orthopaedic trauma surgery.
Adverse events and associated morbidity and subsequent costs receive increasing attention in clinical practice and research. As opposed to complications, errors are not described or analysed in literature on fracture surgery. The aim of this study was to provide a description of errors and complications in relation to fracture surgery, as well as the circumstances in which they occur, for example urgency, type of surgeon, and type of fracture. ⋯ The present study suggests that an osteosynthesis procedure performed by or actively assisted by an orthopaedic trauma surgeon decreases the probability of an error in osteosynthesis. Apart from errors in osteosynthesis, the involvement of an orthopaedic trauma surgeon did not lead to a significant reduction in the number of postoperative complications.

MRI-associated classification to evaluate the outcome after autologous reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament: a preliminary study.
Purpose of this study was to establish and validate an MRI-associated classification to graduate postoperative results of MPFL reconstructions. ⋯ We were able to establish and validate an MRI-associated classification to graduate the postoperative outcome after MPFL reconstructions. Foresighted, the presented classification might support further decision making in case of unsatisfying postoperative results.

Early clinical and radiological results of total knee arthroplasty using patient-specific guides in obese patients.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a challenging procedure in patients with a high body mass index (BMI). The aim of our study was to assess the outcome and accuracy of restoration of mechanical alignment in TKA using patient-specific guides (PSG) involving patients with high BMI. ⋯ Patient-specific guides technology restores the coronal mechanical axis reliably in obese patients without adversely affecting outcomes. Our short-term follow-up has shown favorable outcomes. Surgeons should use these customized jigs as a guide and adjust the size of components, alignment and rotation according to normal surgical principles.
