Observational StudyLong-term results of revision total hip arthroplasty with a cemented femoral component.
In revision total hip arthroplasty (THA), the cancellous bone is normally completely removed out of the femoral canal during stem extraction. This situation is comparable to primary THA following the shape-closed concept, with some authors advocating to remove the metaphyseal cancellous bone to enhance press-fit stability ("French paradox"). The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term outcome, regarding survival and radiological results, of a cemented straight stem when used for revision THA and to compare these results to the results of the same stem in primary THA. ⋯ Cemented straight stems used for revision THA showed excellent long-term results regarding survivorship and radiological outcome. This stem therefore offers a valuable and cost-effective option in revision THA.

Femoral shortening does not impair functional outcome after internal fixation of femoral neck fractures in non-geriatric patients.
Aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and extent of femoral shortening in non-geriatric patients after internal fixation of femoral neck fractures in relation to the clinical outcome at mid-term follow-up. ⋯ Femoral neck shortening is common in non-geriatric patients after internal fixation of femoral neck fractures. Nonetheless, observed excellent functional outcome at mid-term follow-up supports joint-preserving strategies in non-geriatric femoral neck fractures.

Observational StudySignificant increase of pathogen detection rate by dry arthroscopic biopsies at suspected low-grade infection following total knee arthroplasty: a prospective observational study.
The differentiation between stiff-knee and low-grade periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is the current diagnostic challenge in total knee (TKA) revision arthroplasty. The aim of this study was to investigate the additional value of dry biopsies, compared to wet biopsies, in patients presenting with knee stiffness following primary TKA. ⋯ The addition of dry biopsies to the current standard diagnostic algorithm for PJI increased the pathogen detection rate by 49%.

Timing of physiotherapy following fragility hip fracture: delays cost lives.
Post-operative physiotherapy (PT) following fragility hip fractures is intended to improve balance, gait, and muscle strength for enhanced functional outcomes. This study aims to assess whether postponing initiation of PT effects patients' outcomes during hospitalization and in the first 3 months following discharge. ⋯ Post-operative delay in PT following fragility hip fracture surgery was related to increased risk for in-hospital mortality.

Comparative StudyFunctional outcome in patients who underwent distal biceps tendon repair.
To asses physical function and quality of life after distal biceps tendon repair and compare suture anchor and cortical button fixation. Secondarily, we assessed the impact of other factors: acute repair, graft use, concomitant arm conditions, contralateral rupture, and complications. ⋯ Level III, retrospective comparative study.
