Reduced wound leakage in arthroplasty with modified wound closure: a retrospective cohort study.
Wound leakage has been shown to increase the risk of prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) in primary total hip (THA) and knee arthroplasty (unicondylar and total knee arthroplasty; KA). The aim of this study is to determine whether the addition of a continuous subcuticular bonding stitch to a conventional three-layer closure method reduces the incidence of prolonged wound leakage and PJIs after THA and KA. ⋯ The addition of a continuous subcuticular bonding stitch reduces the incidence of prolonged wound leakage and PJIs after THA and KA compared to a conventional three-layer wound closure method. The large reduction of incidence in wound leakage and PJIs in this study, combined with relatively negligible cost and effort of the modified wound closure method, would advocate for implementing this wound closure method in arthroplasty.

Post-carbon-ion radiotherapy vertebral pathological fractures in upper cervical primary malignant spinal tumors treated by occipito-cervical fusion.
To describe the characteristic features of post-carbon-ion radiotherapy (CIRT) vertebral pathological fractures (VPFs) in upper cervical primary malignant spinal tumors (PMSTs) treated by occipito-cervical (OC) fusion. ⋯ The OC fusion with autologous bone grafts was a reliable option for the treatment of post-CIRT VPCs in the patients with upper cervical PMSTs. In addition, evaluation of the bone turnover at the irradiated field by bone SPECT/CT would help surgeons select an effective plan of care, such as fusion level and postoperative care.

Arthroscopic autologous chondrocyte implantation in the knee with an in situ crosslinking matrix: minimum 4-year clinical results of 15 cases and 1 histological evaluation.
To clinically evaluate an arthroscopic autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) technique with an in situ crosslinking matrix for the treatment of full thickness cartilage defects of the knee and to present histological results of a graft cartilage biopsy obtained after 1.5 years. ⋯ Arthroscopic ACI using an in situ crosslinking matrix is a safe and reliable treatment option for full-thickness cartilage defects of the knee.

Skip corpectomy and fusion (SCF) versus anterior controllable antedisplacement and fusion (ACAF): which is better for patients with multilevel cervical OPLL?
The aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy and radiological outcomes of skip corpectomy and fusion (SCF) with anterior controllable antedisplacement and fusion (ACAF) for treating multilevel ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). ⋯ Surgical treatment of multilevel OPLL by SCF or ACAF showed no significant differences in clinical outcomes, with the exception of better NDI scores at final follow-up in ACAF. In addition, ACAF is better than SCF in terms of early bone graft fusion rate, lordotic curvature improvement, risk of CSF leakage.
