Flexor tendon repair with a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) suture material.
There is a consensus that after a flexor tendon repair an aggressive rehabilitation protocol with early active motion can improve functional outcome, provided that the combination of material and suturing technique can meet the higher biomechanic demands. Bearing this in mind we evaluated a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) suture (SERAMON®, Serag-Wiessner) as a possible material for flexor tendon repair. ⋯ PTFE demonstrates superior strength properties in comparison to PPL for flexor tendon repairs. However, standard 2 strand techniques have proved inadequate to bear the higher biomechanic demands.

Donor site complications following anterior iliac crest bone graft for treatment of distal radius fractures.
In distal radius fractures with metaphyseal comminution, bone grafting or the use of a bone substitute may be necessary. Harvesting autologous iliac crest bone graft for other orthopedic procedures has complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the complication rate after harvesting a small amount of bone as used for the treatment of radius fractures. ⋯ This study shows that harvesting a small amount of iliac crest bone graft for the treatment of distal radius fractures is a safe procedure with a very low complication rate.

Which lateral clavicle fractures can be treated by an arthroscopic-assisted endobutton procedure? An analysis of risk factors.
Arthroscopy-assisted treatment of lateral clavicle fractures with coracoclavicular stabilization and an endobutton device have gained popularity over recent years. There is little evidence to support which types of lateral clavicle fractures are suitable for this treatment. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical und radiological outcomes of this treatment and to identify which fracture types are suitable. The secondary outcome was to evaluate potential risk factors for complications MATERIAL/METHODS: A retrospective single center review of 20 unstable lateral clavicle fractures treated with an arthroscopy-assisted CC stabilization technique and Endobutton device between September 2012 and August 2016. The functional outcome was evaluated using Constant and DASH Scores, VAS and SSV. ⋯ Our study shows that arthroscopy-assisted CC stabilization using an endobutton technique delivers good functional results. Highly lateral unstable clavicle fractures seem to be especially suitable for this surgical technique. There was a high number of delayed unions. Analysis of risk factors showed that early mechanical stress, a lateral clavicular fragment larger than 3 cm and a time delay to surgery could be risk factors for nonunions.

Risk of extrapelvine vascular injuries in osteosynthesis with gliding hip screws.
Dynamic hip screw (DHS) osteosynthesis represents one of the most frequently performed fixation methods in orthopedic practice. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential risk of vascular damage by DHS side-plate screws (PS) and plunging instruments for individual femoral vessels and screw positions. ⋯ Though vascular complications are infrequently encountered in DHS osteosynthesis they have to be considered as a potential complication when surgical principles are not followed in this anatomic area.
