A residual intra-articular varus after medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) for varus osteoarthritis of the knee.
Varus deformity of knee osteoarthritis was formed by both intra-articular and extra-articular pathologies. Such intra-articular deformities could not be fully corrected by a medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO), which was performed as an extra-articular procedure. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether any residual varus was left inside the joint after HTO in the patients with knee osteoarthritis, and a correlation of the residual varus could be traced. ⋯ The capability of HTO to correct intra-articular varus deformities, which was represented by JLCAs, is limited. Postoperative residual JLCAs were correlated primarily to preoperative JLCA values and total alignment correction, while the former accounted for most. A preoperative JLCA of 6° was suggested to be a tipping point, and a larger value indicated more than 5° residual JLCA after the HTO.

Design and preliminary biomechanical analysis of a novel motion preservation device for lumbar spinal disease after vertebral corpectomy.
To design a novel prosthesis, a movable artificial lumbar complex (MALC), for non-fusion reconstruction after lumbar subtotal corpectomy and to evaluate the stability, range of motion and load-bearing strength in the human cadaveric lumbar spine. ⋯ Compared with titanium cages, the MALC prosthesis not only restored the vertebral height and effectively preserved segment movements without any abnormal gain of mobility in adjacent inter-vertebral spaces but also bore the lumbar load and reduced the local stress load of adjacent vertebral endplates.

Mediolateral coronal laxity does not correlate with knee range of motion after total knee arthroplasty.
It remains controversial whether coronal laxity after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a critical factor in determining clinical outcomes such as knee range of motion (ROM). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between postoperative ROM and coronal laxity, which was defined as the angular motion from the neutral, unloaded position to the loaded position, in patients with medial knee osteoarthritis undergoing TKA. ⋯ This study indicated that mediolateral coronal laxity in patients with an osteoarthritic knee did not correlate with knee ROM after TKA when 3°-4° of laxity in the medial and lateral orientations was maintained.

No added value using SPECT/CT to analyze persistent symptoms after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
To evaluate the diagnostic and clinical value of SPECT/CT compared to the standard algorithm for patients with persistent symptoms after anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. The standard algorithm uses clinical information, conventional radiographs, MRI and CT scan, while the trial algorithm uses the same information but SPECT/CT in addition. ⋯ Level II: diagnostic comparative study.

Modular tumor prostheses: are current stem designs suitable for distal femoral reconstruction? A biomechanical implant stability analysis in Sawbones.
High loosening rates after distal femoral replacement may be due to implant design not adapted to specific anatomic and biomechanical conditions. ⋯ The tapered design may be favorable in larger defects whereas the hexagonal may be advantageous in defects located more distally.
