Observational StudyProspective observation of Clostridium histolyticum collagenase for the treatment of Dupuytren's disease in 788 patients: the Austrian register.
Since March 2011, the microbial collagenase of Clostridium histolyticum (Xiapex®, Swedish Orphan Biovitrum AB, Stockholm, Sweden) has become available in the European Union for treatment of Dupuytren's disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluate potential safety risks of Xiapex® and to contribute to a better understanding for its use. ⋯ The injectable collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (Xiapex®) proved to be effective and safe in patients with Dupuytren's disease. Minor adverse events disappeared within 30 days and the need for surgical treatment within 1 year was very low (2%). No major complications or rare side effects were seen in this prospective observational study.

Comparative StudyMinimal invasive posterior correction of Lenke 5C idiopathic scoliosis: comparative analysis of minimal invasive vs. open surgery.
Surgical management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in spite of usually favourable outcomes is still a major operation. Therefore, efforts are being undertaken to minimalize the procedure, reduce the surgical trauma and postoperative convalescence. The study was designed to compare posterior minimal invasive surgery using navigation based on intraoperative 3D imaging and standard open instrumented fusion in Lenke 5C idiopathic scoliosis treatment. ⋯ The minimally invasive approach to idiopathic scoliosis treatment is a very promising technique to limit the extent of surgery maintaining the same goals as in the open method. It allows for lower blood loss, less requirement for opioids and a shorter hospital stay.

Staphylococcal resistance profiles in deep infection following primary hip and knee arthroplasty: a study using the NJR dataset.
This study aimed to (1) report the rates of resistance against a variety of antibiotics for pure Staphylococcal infections, and (2) examine the impact of ALBC use at primary surgery has on resistance patterns for patients undergoing first-time revision of primary hip and knee arthroplasty for indication of infection. ⋯ Clinicians must anticipate the possibility of antibiotic resistance to ALBC utilised at primary surgery.

Plate-on-plate technique for treating peri-implant fractures of distal femoral locking plate: a retrospective study of 11 patients.
In this study, we aimed to ascertain the feasibility and reliability of the plate-on-plate technique for peri-implant fractures of the distal femoral locking plate when the distal femoral fracture is still unhealed. ⋯ In our case series, the plate-on-plate technique achieved a good bone union rate and functional outcomes with low complication rates and thus may be a good alternative for managing this difficult type of fracture.
