Concomitant periarticular fractures predict worse patient-reported outcomes in multiligament knee injuries: a matched cohort study.
There is a shortage of high-level evidence regarding periarticular fractures affect outcomes after MLKIs. The purpose of this study was to determine whether concomitant periarticular fractures with mutliligament knee injuries (MLKIs) predict worse patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) when compared to MLKIs without concomitant periarticular fractures after surgical repair and/or reconstruction. ⋯ The presence of a periarticular fracture predicted significantly worse clinical outcomes in the setting of MLKI. These findings may be useful in determining the prognosis of MLKI with concomitant periarticular fractures treated with surgical repair and/or reconstruction.

The outcomes of mobile bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty on anteromedial osteoarthritis of the knee in the same patient.
Compared to total knee arthroplasty (TKA), mobile-bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is associated with better outcomes, such as an earlier recovery, less postoperative pain, lower morbidity and mortality, and a greater "feel" of a normal knee. However, no study has reported the clinical outcomes in patients with the same stage of osteoarthritis of the knee. The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical outcomes, including the Joint Forgotten Score (JFS), Oxford Knee Score (OKS), Knee Society Score (KSS), Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), and Kujala score after UKA on one knee and TKA on the opposite knee in the same patient. ⋯ UKA was associated with a better JFS and KOOS but was otherwise comparable to TKA and may be preferable.

A biomechanical comparison of Achilles tendon suture repair techniques: Locking Block Modified Krackow, Kessler, and Percutaneous Achilles Repair System with the early rehabilitation program in vitro bovine model.
The Krackow technique has the advantage of high strength, though it is not minimally invasive. The "Locking Block Modified Krackow" (LBMK) peri-tendon fixation technique was designed for minimally invasive surgery. This study aimed to compare the biomechanics of LBMK with Kessler and Percutaneous Achilles Repair System (PARS) techniques using a simulated early rehabilitation program. ⋯ The biomechanical strength of the LBMK suture was significantly greater than Kessler and PARS. The reduced gap in the LBMK group suggests superior resistance to gap formation, which may occur during early postoperative rehabilitation.

Outcome of proximal interphalangeal joint replacement with pyrocarbon implants: a long-term longitudinal follow-up study.
The aim of this study was to compare the short-, mid-, and long-term results of pyrocarbon PIPJ arthroplasty. ⋯ Pyrocarbon PIPJ arthroplasty has a risk of early complications necessitating revision surgeries. In spite of radiological implant migration, good pain relief, grip strength, and high quality-of-life ratings are stable for a long time.

Staged upper and lower limb lengthening performing bilateral simultaneous surgery of the femur and tibia in achondroplastic patients.
Surgical lengthening and angular correction of the limbs are an option for treating the orthopedic clinical manifestations in patients with achondroplasia. This study assesses a staged limb lengthening protocol, performing simultaneous bilateral lengthening of the femur and tibia (stage I [S1]), and humeral lengthening (stage II [S2]). ⋯ The limb lengthening protocol proposed in this study is a suitable treatment for achondroplasia patients to achieve the agreed-upon objectives (limb-trunk ratio, improved functionality, and lower limb alignment). The reproducibility of the procedure and patient safety were upheld.
