Latarjet procedure for anterior shoulder instability: a 24-year follow-up study.
Different surgical techniques (open and arthroscopic) have been described for the treatment of post-traumatic recurrent anterior instability. The aim of the surgery is to restore when possible, normal shoulder anatomy by repairing the underlying pathology responsible for the instability. Sometimes other surgical techniques are indicated. The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the long-term clinical and radiographic results and complications of the open Latarjet procedure after a minimum follow-up of 24 years. ⋯ Level III; retrospective cohort comparison; treatment study.

Short stem humeral components in reverse shoulder arthroplasty: stem alignment influences the neck-shaft angle.
Shorter humeral reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) stems may reduce stress shielding, however, potentially carry the risk of varus/valgus malalignment. This radiographic study's purpose was to measure the incidence of stem malalignment and thus the realized neck-shaft angle (NSA). The hypothesis was that malalignment of the stem is a frequent postoperative radiographic finding. ⋯ Level IV, retrospective study.

Sonographic evaluation of lateral meniscal extrusion: implementation and validation.
Meniscal extrusion (ME) is an important indicator of and prognostic factor for various knee pathologies. To date, no standardized protocol for the ultrasound-based examination of lateral ME exists. The purpose of the present study was to test the reliability and validity of lateral ME measurements using a standardized ultrasound-based examination protocol. ⋯ Ultrasound is a reliable, quick and cost-effective technique for lateral ME measurement, but results are not readily comparable with MRI.

The effect of new preoperative preparation method compared to conventional method in complex acetabular fractures: minimum 2-year follow-up.
This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of the new method including 3D printing-based preoperative planning, surgical workshop, and contouring of the plate versus conventional method in the surgical treatment of complex acetabular fractures. ⋯ 3D printing-based pre-contoured plate is a more effective and reliable method than traditional contoured plate technique for treating the complex acetabular fractures. Meanwhile, the 3D printing is a useful orthopedic surgical education tool which can improve the understanding of the complex acetabular fracture for a young surgeon.

Outcomes of hip arthroplasty with concomitant hardware removal: influence of the type of implant retrieved and impact of positive intraoperative cultures.
The impact of residual internal fixation devices on subsequent procedures about the hip has not been clearly well defined. The objective of the current study is to evaluate the outcome of hip arthroplasty after hardware retrieval as a one-stage replacement, to analyze possible differences related to the type of removed implant, and to assess the impact of unexpected intraoperative cultures during implant retrieval. ⋯ According to our results, hip arthroplasty with concomitant hardware removal is related to a high 5-year mortality rate, mainly when intramedullary nail is retrieved. Whereas a high risk of early prosthetic joint infection is associated, it seems not to be related to the elevated presence of unexpected positive cultures.
