Degeneration of the articular disc in the human triangular fibrocartilage complex.
Traumatic injuries of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) are frequent reasons for ulnar wrist pain. The assessment of the extent of articular disc (AD) degeneration is important for the differentiation of acute injuries versus chronic lesions. ⋯ The fibrocartilage of degenerated ADs contains NITEGE and versican. The amount of the immunoreactivity of these markers allows the differentiation of degenerative changes into three grades. The degeneration of the AD increases with age and emphasizes its important mechanical function.

The use of 2-octyl cyanoacrylate as an adjuvant to wound closure in total knee arthroplasty.
The efficacy of the use of 2-octyl cyanoacrylate (OCA) as an adjuvant to wound closure in preventing wound complications after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is rarely reported. This study was aimed to determine whether the use of OCA as a supplement to conventional wound closure reduces the incidence of wound complications following TKA. ⋯ III, retrospective, cohort study.

Failure analysis of infection persistence after septic revision surgery: a checklist algorithm for risk factors in knee and hip arthroplasty.
Several studies describe risk factors for primary periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) and general treatment outcome factors like microbe spectrum or patient-specific risk factors. However, these general and patient dependent findings cannot solely explain all cases of infection persistence after a prior septic revision. This study analyzes possible specific and patient independent reasons for failure after revisions for PJI in knee and hip arthroplasty. ⋯ In the majority of failed revisions with subsequent infection persistence at least one possible patient independent failure cause could be identified. The entire previous therapy should be critically reviewed following failing revisions to optimize the outcome of septic revisions. By using a checklist algorithm, high rates of infection freedom were achieved.

Acromioclavicular joint separation treated with clavicular hook plate: a study of radiological and functional outcomes.
ACJ separation is a common shoulder injury. A variety of surgical techniques for high-grade ACJ separations have been described. A commonly used technique represents open reduction and fixation by a hook plate. Goal of the present study was to evaluate radiographic and functional outcome in patients with high-grade ACJ separations following surgical treatment with a hook plate before and after surgery as well as after hook plate removal. ⋯ In contrast to a significant higher CCD after hook plate removal, nearly all patients achieved good to excellent functional results for DASH and CMS. This indicates that loss of reduction does not necessarily lead to poor functional outcome after ACJ separation surgery.

Pathological fractures of the femur after radiation therapy for soft tissue tumor: a case series of seven patients treated with repeated internal fixation.
Pathological femoral fracture (PFF) after radiation therapy (RT) for soft tissue tumor is a debilitating complication with a high rate of nonunion that requires multiple subsequent procedures and hindrance of functional activity. We aimed to evaluate healing rate after repeated internal fixation in a case series of PFF after RT. ⋯ Our results suggest that bones within the RT field retain healing capacities, and that repeated internal fixation may be a viable option for the treatment of PFF after RT.
