Early postoperative Barthel index score and long-term walking ability in patients with trochanteric fractures walking independently before injury: a retrospective cohort study.
Trochanteric fractures are one of the most common fragility fractures, and the number of the patients is increasing worldwide. Identifying prognostic factors is important to manage and minimize the social losses caused by postoperative walking impairment. The purpose of this retrospective study is to clarify the association between early postoperative Barthel index score and postoperative long-term walking ability among patients with trochanteric fractures who could walk independently before injury. ⋯ The present results suggested that the Barthel index score measured in the early postoperative period after trochanteric fractures was associated with the level of long-term walking impairment in patients who could walk independently before injury.

Clinical outcomes of using contralateral-side laterally bent intramedullary nails in atypical femur fractures with femoral bowing.
This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of using contralateral-side laterally bent intramedullary nails (IMNs) in bowed atypical femur fractures (AFFs). ⋯ The use of contralateral-side laterally bent IMNs in treating bowed femurs showed excellent clinical outcomes without complications. In severely bowed femurs, this technique can be safe and useful.

The prevalence of soft tissue injuries in operative Schatzker type IV tibial plateau fractures.
To describe the incidence of soft-tissue injuries in patients with surgically treated Schatzker type IV tibial plateau fractures. ⋯ This study found that operative Schatzker type IV tibial plateau fractures represented a high incidence of soft-tissue injuries, especially LCL injuries, ACL injuries, and meniscus tears. Based on our data, we believe that soft-tissue injuries in operative Schatzker type IV tibial plateau fractures deserve more attention.

Computer-assisted open reduction internal fixation of intraarticular radius fractures navigated with patient-specific instrumentation, a prospective case series.
Intra-articular fractures are associated with posttraumatic arthritis if inappropriately treated. Exact reduction of the joint congruency is the main factor to avoid the development of arthrosis. Aim of this study was to evaluate feasibility of computer-assisted surgical planning and 3D-printed patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) for treatment of distal intraarticular radius fractures. ⋯ IV.

The effect of bicipital groove morphology on the stability of the biceps long head tendon.
Long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) instability is an important source of pain and disability for the shoulder. Supraspinatus and subscapularis tendons contribute to the formation of the biceps pulley system, which maintains biceps stability during shoulder movements. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of morphology of bicipital groove on the stability of LHBT. Also, to evaluate the relationship between bicipital groove morphology and subscapularis rupture and supraspinatus rupture. ⋯ III.
