Supercutaneous locking compression plate in the treatment of infected non-union and open fracture of the leg.
Salvage of infected tibia and fibula non-union and severe open fractures is challenging and often requires staged treatment. We describe all cases that underwent supercutaneous plating of the leg as external fixation technique and assessed union rate, time to union, rate of infection clearance, and patient-reported outcome measures. ⋯ Therapeutic level III.

Accuracy of free-hand humeral head resection planned on 3D-CT models in shoulder arthroplasty: an in vitro analysis.
Three-dimensional planning of humeral head osteotomy in shoulder arthroplasty (SA) is understudied. This study evaluated whether a standard osteotomy technique along the anterosuperior anatomic neck (ASOT) could be surgically reproduced as pre-operatively planned on 3D-CT models. ⋯ Basic science article.

Biomechanical analysis of the interval slide procedure: a fresh porcine cadaver study.
The interval slide procedure (IS) has been introduced to improve mobility in massive, retracted rotator cuff tears. As clinical studies showed controversial results, the benefit of the IS is still widely discussed. ⋯ The IS procedure results in increased supraspinatus tendon mobility in fresh porcine cadaver shoulders. However, performing the posterior IS subsequent to the anterior IS no significant improvement of mobility has been observed.

Litigation after primary total hip and knee arthroplasties in France: review of legal actions over the past 30 years.
Since the law of March 4, 2002, several modifications have impacted medical practices and their medico-legal implications. In case of an infectious complication not related to a fault of the practitioners (surgeons, anesthetists), the patient has the right to compensation assumed by the care structures. Moreover, the lack of preoperative information is no longer just a failing of the ethical standards but a breach of medical and legal obligations. Then, aims of this study were: (1) to describe the reasons for a lawsuit in France following total primary hip (THA) and total knee (TKA) arthroplasties and (2) to compare litigation characteristics of private and public practices. ⋯ The main complaint about all the arthroplasties in France was a septic complication. The lack of information could be an added pejorative element for the final verdict.

Does femoral stem choice influence fracture type or incidence for direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty?
Despite similar fracture rates, the incidence of intraoperative and post-operative fractures between standard (ST) length and short (SH) femoral stems remains unclear. Therefore, this study compared the incidence of intraoperative and early postoperative fractures between three ST and a single tapered-wedge SH femoral stem. ⋯ The risk of intraoperative and post-operative fractures following anterior total hip arthroplasty may be biased toward ST and SH implants, respectively. These results, along with the presence of five insufficient fractures, identify potential fracture risks and mechanisms for specific implant designs.
