Correlation of factors affecting correction of meniscal extrusion and outcome after medial meniscus root repair.
Meniscus extrusion in medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRT) is a consistent MRI finding and correction of extrusion is a primary objective of the meniscal root repair. The purpose of the study is to evaluate feasibility of correction of extrusion and correlation of various factors affecting the postoperative extrusion correction and outcomes in all degenerative medial meniscus posterior roots (MMPRTs). ⋯ Retrospective Case series, level of evidence IV.

ReviewSurgical treatment of the bony mallet thumb: a case series and literature review.
The aim of this study was to provide a more precise statement on the outcome after surgical treatment of a bony mallet thumb and possibly give a treatment recommendation regarding the surgical fixation method. ⋯ The evidence for the best treatment of a bony mallet thumb fracture is low. On one hand the functional outcome can be inferior using an open reduction approach, but on the other hand, K-wire fixation methods with a closed reduction approach showed a higher risk for infection. Future multi-center research must be conducted to find the best treatment procedure for the best outcome of the patient.

Failure to Meet Same-Day Discharge is Not a Predictor of Adverse Outcomes.
As more centers introduce same-day discharge (SDD) total joint arthroplasty (TJA) programs, it is vital to understand the factors associated with successful outpatient TJA and whether outcomes vary for those that failed SDD. The purpose of this study is to compare outcomes of patients that are successfully discharged home the day of surgery to those that fail-to-launch (FTL) and require a longer in-hospital stay. ⋯ Retrospective Cohort Study.

Risk factors for failure after cementless femoral revision THA: a consecutive series of 105 cases.
Cementless femoral revision total hip arthroplasty (RTHA) after periprosthetic fracture, aseptic loosening or infection is a challenging surgical procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence and reasons for failure after two-stage septic revision, periprosthetic fracture or aseptic loosening that may reveal a rationale for cementless RTHA in two-stage revisions. ⋯ Cementless revision using a modular tapered device is reliable with respect to reinfection risk in two-stage procedures.

Clinical outcome after lumbar spinal fusion surgery in degenerative spondylolisthesis: a 3-year follow-up.
Lumbar spinal fusion surgery is a widely accepted surgical treatment in degenerative causes of lumbar spondylolisthesis. The benefit of reduction of anterior displacement and restoration of sagittal parameters is still controversially debated. Purpose of the underlying publication was to analyze the influence of radiographic sagittal parameters of the spine in aspects of changes in postoperative clinical outcome. ⋯ In low-grade spondylolisthesis, spinal fusion surgery is a well-established surgical procedure; however, the impact of sagittal parameters and reduction of anterior displacement remains controversial. Within our findings, restoration of sagittal parameters showed significant correlation to improvement in clinical outcome in our mid-term follow-up data.
