Fracture line and comminution zone characteristics, and rotator cuff footprint involvement in OTA/AO 11C3-type proximal humeral fractures: complex proximal humerus fracture map.
To identify fracture characteristics and zones of comminution as well as the relationship with anatomic landmarks and rotator cuff footprint involvement in OTA/AO 11C3-type proximal humerus fractures. ⋯ Specifically defining the certain differences for repeatable fracture patterns and comminution zones in OTA/AO 11C3-type fractures and the relationship between the rotator cuff footprint and the joint capsule may contribute to the decision-making process of surgeons.

"Mother and baby plate": a strategy to improve stability in proximal fractures of the ulna.
Proximal ulna fractures with a large zone of comminution, such as in the context of Monteggia injuries, require mechanically strong osteosyntheses as they occur in regions with high physiological joint load. Consequently, implant failure and pseudarthrosis are critical and devastating complications, especially with the background of mainly young patients being affected. An effective solution could be provided by adding a small second plate 90° angulated to the standard dorsal plate in the area of non-union. Thus, this study investigates whether, from a biomechanical point of view, the use of such a mini or baby plate is worthwhile. ⋯ Here, we show evidence that the addition of a small plate to the standard plate is highly effective in increasing the biomechanical stability in severe fractures equivalent to Jupiter type IIb. As it hopefully minimizes complications like pseudarthrosis and implant failure and as the additional preparatory effort leading to compromised blood supply is regarded to be negligible, this justifies and highly advises the use of a mother-baby-plate system.

Moonlight surgery: no influence of moon phase or Friday 13th on outcomes of total knee arthroplasty.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate associations between revision-free survival and functional scores of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and moon phase on the day of surgery, as well as operations performed on a Friday 13th. ⋯ Neither moon phase on the day of surgery nor Friday 13th were associated with revision-free survival or clinical scores of TKA. Patients operated on a Friday 13th had significantly worse preoperative total WOMAC but similar postoperative total WOMAC at 1-year follow-up. These findings could help reassure patients that TKA renders consistent outcomes regardless of the preoperative pain or function, and in spite of bad omens or moon phases.

ReviewHigh-degree posterior rotational osteotomy for extensive collapsed femoral head osteonecrosis in teenagers: remodeling and results with a mean of 10-year follow-up.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of high-degree posterior rotational osteotomy for teenagers with extensively collapsed femoral head osteonecrosis. ⋯ We concluded that this procedure is effective at delaying the progression of degeneration if adequate area of viable bone can be moved under the loaded portion of the acetabulum in teenagers with severe femoral head osteonecrosis.

ReviewGreater rate of return to play and re-injury following all-inside meniscal repair compared to the inside-out technique: a systematic review.
Inside-out and all-inside arthroscopic meniscal repairs are widely performed. However, it remains unclear which method promotes greater clinical outcomes. This study compared inside-out versus all-inside arthroscopic meniscal repair in terms of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), failures, return to play, and symptoms. ⋯ Level III, systematic review.
