Does the surgical treatment of concomitant upper limb fractures affect the outcomes of hip fractures in the elderly population?
Elderly patients with concomitant upper limb and hip fractures present a management dilemma because upper limb fractures potentially affect rehabilitation outcomes for the hip fracture. This study aims to evaluate whether the site of upper limb fractures and the decision to surgically treat such fractures affect the functional outcome of surgically treated hip fracture patients. ⋯ Surgical treatment of concomitant upper limb fractures does not appear to change the outcomes of the hip fractures. Hip fracture patients with surgically treated wrist fractures had better functional outcomes at 6 months compared to those treated non-surgically; however, there was no difference at 12 months. Hip fracture patients with concomitant wrist fractures had better functional outcomes compared to hip fracture patients with proximal humerus fractures.

Inadvertent, intraoperative, non- to minimally displaced periprosthetic humeral shaft fractures in RTSA do not affect the clinical and radiographic short-term outcome.
Little information is available on the clinical and radiographic outcome of intraoperative, non- to minimally displaced humeral fractures that occur during implantation of a stemmed, reverse shoulder prosthesis but are only recognized on routine postoperative radiographs. The goal of this study is to report the clinical and radiographic outcome for this rarely reported fracture type. ⋯ Non- to minimally displaced intraoperative periprosthetic humeral fractures in RTSA have an incidence of about 5% in this series of mainly uncemented press-fit stems. They generally heal without any further treatment and are not associated with stem loosening or compromise the clinical outcome after primary RTSA. Except slight restriction in the postoperative rehabilitation protocol, no further attention or action is needed.

Arthroscopic cystectomy for Baker's cysts with and without one-way valve lesions: incidence of one-way valve lesion, associated pathologies, and clinical outcomes.
A one-way valve lesion plays an important role in the formation of Baker's cysts and serves as an important landmark for accessing these cysts during arthroscopic surgery. This study aimed to investigate the incidence of one-way valve lesions and their effect on clinical outcomes in patients who underwent arthroscopic cystectomy for Baker's cysts. ⋯ The incidence of one-way valve lesions during arthroscopic cystectomy for Baker's cysts was lower than that previously reported. Arthroscopic cystectomy showed good clinical results in patients with and without these lesions.

Does arthroscopic superior capsule reconstruction using porcine dermal xenograft represent a viable option in case of massive irreparable posterosuperior rotator cuff tear?
The aim of the present study was to evaluate clinical and structural outcomes of patients with a massive irreparable rotator cuff tear treated with arthroscopic superior capsule reconstruction using an acellular porcine dermal xenograft. We hypothesized that this procedure would lead to improvement in clinical and functional results and that structural failure would not influence the final clinical results. ⋯ Arthroscopic superior capsule reconstruction using an acellular porcine dermal xenograft may be a viable alternative to treat massive posterosuperior rotator cuff tear in patients with a painful pseudoparalysis without anterosuperior escape. Structural failure may strongly influence final outcomes with significant role played by tear location.
