Cumulated ambulation score as predictor of postoperative mobility in patients with proximal femur fractures.
The cumulated ambulation score (CAS) has been developed as an index for evaluating mobility in the early postoperative period. This study aimed to estimate the association between CAS and independent ambulation after surgery for proximal femur fractures. ⋯ The CAS predicted independent ambulation at 2 weeks postoperatively; however, this relationship was limited at 3 months postoperatively. Therefore, the CAS may help estimate independent ambulation at discharge from an acute-care hospital.

Acute, isolated fractures of the metatarsal bones: an epidemiologic study.
Although metatarsal fractures are common, the significance of previous epidemiologic studies is limited to specific fracture entities, subpopulations, or heterogeneous fracture aetiologies. The aim of the study was to assess the epidemiology of isolated metatarsal fractures in an adult population at a level-1 trauma centre. ⋯ Level III.

Comparison of the diagnostic value of measurements of transverse syndesmotic interval and 'lambda sign' in distinguishing latent syndesmotic diastasis in chronic lateral ankle instability: a cross-sectional study of 188 cases.
Chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) could accompany with latent syndesmotic diastasis (LSD), which is difficult to distinguish before surgery. Tibiofibular interval width and extravasation of joint fluid ('lambda sign') on MRI are widely used in the diagnosis of syndesmotic injury, but the reliability of these methods in distinguishing the associated LSD in CLAI was rarely studied. Our objective was to compare the diagnostic value of the measurement of the transverse tibiofibular interval and 'lambda sign' on MRI in distinguishing LSD in CLAI and to investigate the radiological predictor that best matched the intraoperatively measured syndesmotic width. ⋯ Transverse tibiofibular interval measurements were more reliable than the 'lambda sign' in distinguishing associated LSD in CLAI patients. The PSW ≥ 3.8 mm could be a predictor of syndesmotic diastasis.

3D reduction combined with the modified Kirschner-wire tension band for the treatment of comminuted patella fracture.
A novel 3D reduction method combined with a modified Kirschner-wire tension band (3D MKTB) fixation method to treat comminuted patella fractures was introduced in this study. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and practicality of this novel technology. ⋯ IV.

An evaluation of the inlet obturator oblique view for sacroiliac and transsacral screw placement.
Between 2005 and 2017, the number of closed reduction and internal fixation of pelvic ring injuries increased by 1116%. Percutaneous fixation is currently the only minimally invasive technique that can stabilize the posterior elements of the pelvis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the utility of the inlet obturator oblique view (IOO) with the hypothesis that the IOO view will improve the accuracy of sacroiliac and transsacral screw placement in the S1 or S2 body and improve the accuracy of assessing whether the implant is fully seated against the outer cortex of the ilium. ⋯ Our findings demonstrate that misinterpretation of sacroiliac and transsacral screw placement can occur with the standard fluoroscopic imaging. We suggest the addition of the IOO view increases the overall accuracy of screw placement and whether the screw head is fully seated against the outer table of the ilium. This in turn can improve fixation and potentially improve patient outcomes and decrease adverse events.
