The utility of machine learning algorithms for the prediction of patient-reported outcome measures following primary hip and knee total joint arthroplasty.
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are increasingly used as quality benchmark in total hip and knee arthroplasty (THA; TKA) due to bundled payment systems that aim to provide a patient-centered, value-based treatment approach. However, there is a paucity of predictive tools for postoperative PROMs. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate machine learning models for the prediction of numerous patient-reported outcome measures following primary hip and knee total joint arthroplasty. ⋯ Level III, case control retrospective analysis.

The radiographic outcome after plating for pubic symphysis diastasis: does it matter clinically?
Open reduction and internal fixation with plates is the most widespread surgery in traumatic pubic symphysis diastasis. However, implant failure or recurrent diastasis was commonly observed during follow-up. The aim of our study was to evaluate the radiologic findings and clinical outcomes. ⋯ A gradual increase in the symphysis distance and a high possibility of implant failure may be the distinguishing features of traumatic pubic symphysis diastasis fixation. The postoperative symphyseal distance achieved stability after 6 months, even after implant failure. Radiographic outcomes, such as increased symphysis distance, screw loosening, and plate breakage, did not affect clinical functional outcomes.

Impact of increasing total knee replacement constraint within a single implant line on coronal stability: an ex vivo investigation.
Despite the existence of diverse total knee implant designs, few data is available on the relationship between the level of implant constraint and the postoperative joint stability in the frontal plane and strain in the collateral ligaments. The current study aimed to document this relation in an ex vivo setting. ⋯ V.

Neuraxial versus general anesthesia for perioperative outcomes and resource utilization following knee arthroplasty: experience from a large national database.
Attentions have been paid to the optimal anesthesia for knee arthroplasty (KA). We sought to investigate whether neuraxial anesthesia (NA) is superior to general anesthesia (GA) in terms of perioperative outcomes and resource utilization following KA. ⋯ Compared with GA, NA was associated with decreased incidence of blood transfusion, readmission, reduced length of stay, and total hospital charge following KA, suggesting the favorable role of NA for perioperative outcomes and resource utilization in KA.

Case ReportsRetrospective analysis and risk of progression of partial anterior cruciate ligament injuries in a young population.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a common knee ligament injury. Partial ACL tears are common, and at least 10-27% of isolated ACL tears are diagnosed as partial tears. Patients with partial tears have high risk of progression of tears to complete tears, which may require surgical reconstruction. The risk factors associated with the progression to a complete tear are poorly understood. ⋯ Partial ACL tear progressed to a complete tear in 47.3% of evaluated patients. The associated risk factors were age less than 35 years, rigorous physical activities, high ACL-Return to Sport after Injury score during early rehabilitation days, early return to activity, and pivoting contact sports.
