Adjustable-loop cortical suspension device for posterolateral corner reconstruction in the setting of fibular avulsion fracture: a case series and novel technique description.
A novel technique using an adjustable-loop cortical suspension toggle device for reduction of a fibular head avulsion fracture (arcuate fracture) in posterolateral corner (PLC) reconstruction is described. Results of clinical follow-up are presented. ⋯ IV.

Development and internal validation of machine learning algorithms for predicting complications after primary total hip arthroplasty.
Complications after total hip arthroplasty (THA) may result in readmission or reoperation and impose a significant cost on the healthcare system. Understanding which patients are at-risk for complications can potentially allow for targeted interventions to decrease complication rates through pursuing preoperative health optimization. The purpose of the current was to develop and internally validate machine learning (ML) algorithms capable of performing patient-specific predictions of all-cause complications within two years of primary THA. ⋯ III, therapeutic study.

Povidone-iodine irrigation reduces infection after total hip and knee arthroplasty.
One of the most important challenges faced by orthopedic surgeons is periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). PJI is a common cause for total joint arthroplasty failure with an incidence of 0.3-1.9%. PJI can be devastating for the patient and extremely costly for the healthcare system. There is concern that a major cause of PJI is intra-operative colonization and recent studies have shown a decrease in PJI with the use of dilute povidone-iodine (Betadine®, Avrio Health L.P, Stamford, CT) irrigation prior to wound closure. This study presents our experience with the use of dilute Betadine® irrigation prior to wound closure and its effect on our post-operative hip and knee arthroplasty acute infection rate. ⋯ III.

Comparative analysis of scaphoid nonunion treatment with screw fixation and angular stable plate.
Scaphoid fractures represent 5-10% of nonunion rate and the treatment options consist of an open reduction with correction of deformity, restoration of the scaphoid length with autologous wedge grafting and fixation. However, there is still no consensus in the literature on the best fixation method. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to compare plate fixation and screw fixation in treating scaphoid nonunion with humpback deformity and carpal instability. ⋯ II, therapeutics studies; prospective comparative study.

Total knee arthroplasty in patients with lumbar spinal fusion leads to significant changes in pelvic tilt and sacral slope.
The knee-hip-spine syndrome has been well elucidated in the literature in recent years. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) on spinopelvic sagittal alignment in patients with and without pre-TKA lumber spinal fusion. ⋯ Retrospective Cohort Study.
