Ballistic talus fractures are difficult to treat and there is a paucity of literature regarding the subject. The goal of the current study is to outline our experience and epidemiological findings from a single center with a large case series of ballistic talus fractures. ⋯ The current study offers a unique and previously unreported cohort of gunshot related talar fractures. Our deep infection rate of 4.8% was similar to other studies of closed talus fractures. We found an improvement in the average TDA for the operatively treated fractures, which may represent improvements in fracture reduction with operative fixation. Further studies with longer follow-up are necessary improve our limited understanding of these injuries and to enhance treatment.

Endoscopic-assisted anterior pelvic ring osteosynthesis for pelvic ring injuries: a technical report.
In the surgical treatment of pelvic ring injuries (PRIs), there is an increasing adoption of minimally invasive techniques to improve surgical outcomes. Since the introduction of endoscopic-assisted osteosynthesis for PRIs in 2019, various surgical challenges have been identified. To improve surgical and clinical outcomes, we modified the existing procedures and aimed to present the surgical outcomes of patients with pelvic fractures who underwent endoscopic-assisted surgery. ⋯ Endoscopic-assisted pelvic surgery is a safe and effective treatment alternative for PRIs, particularly when focusing on the anterior pelvic ring. The advantages of this approach, including small incisions and preservation of abdominal and pelvic floor muscle integrity, contribute to improved patient recovery. Future research should focus on comparative studies of this technique with other minimally invasive techniques and open surgery.

Thrombotic events in patients underwent simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty with modern perioperative blood management strategy.
Thrombotic events, the leading cause of death after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), occurred more frequently in simultaneous bilateral TKA than unilateral TKA under conventional perioperative management. The aim of the study was to determine whether the simultaneous bilateral TKA using contemporary blood management strategies would be associated with higher risk of thrombotic events than unilateral TKA. ⋯ The rate of thrombotic events after simultaneous bilateral TKA with contemporary perioperative blood management strategies did not significantly differ from that after unilateral TKA.

Socioeconomic deprivation is predictive of incomplete postoperative follow-up in patients with tibial shaft fractures.
Patients who sustain tibial shaft fractures are at risk for delayed recognition of complications with inadequate postoperative follow-up. Area Deprivation Index (ADI) is a surrogate which may be used to analyze the effects of socioeconomic deprivation on postoperative follow-up rates. The purpose of this study was to determine if ADI is associated with incomplete postoperative follow-up after intramedullary (IM) nailing for fractures of the tibial diaphysis. ⋯ III.

Gram negative periprosthetic hip infection: nearly 25% same pathogen infection persistence at a mean of 2 years.
While gram negative (GN) periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) have previously been described as difficult to treat pathogens with high rates of reinfection, limited investigations have addressed midterm outcomes and risk of infection persistence by the same pathogen. This study analyzed (1) baseline demographics, treatment strategy, and midterm outcomes of GN PJIs, as well as (2) differences in reinfection and relapse rates compared to gram positive (GP) PJIs. ⋯ Therapeutic Level III.
