Increased accuracy in component positioning using an image-less robotic arm system in primary total knee arthroplasty: a retrospective study.
Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RTKA) and navigated total knee arthroplasty (NTKA) have shown improved knee alignment and reduced radiographic outliers. Recent studies have proven that conventional mechanical alignment may not be the optimal goal for every patient. The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of the planned implant positioning of a novel image-less robotic technique with an established navigated technique (NTKA). ⋯ The RTKA group reported a substantial and significant reduced error from the planned target angles for both tibial and femoral components. No difference in terms of radiographic outliers was noted between navigation and robotic assistance.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of medial meniscus posterior root tear in early knee osteoarthritis: a comparative study.
This study aimed to detect medial meniscal posterior root tear (MMPRT) diagnostic methods with high sensitivity and specificity using dynamic ultrasonographic evaluation in patients with early knee osteoarthritis (OA) and demonstrate the usefulness of dynamic ultrasonographic medial meniscal extrusion (MME) evaluation in MMPRT diagnosis using a cutoff value. ⋯ Ultrasonographic MME evaluations for MMPRT diagnosis showed relatively high sensitivity and specificity in patients with early knee OA. Dynamic ultrasonographic MME evaluation may lead to appropriate additional examinations, early diagnosis, and intervention for MMPRT in patients with early knee OA.

Total hip arthroplasty in patients with colostomy: impact on inpatient complications, hospital costs, and length of stay.
The presence of permanent end-colostomy is traditionally thought of as a risk factor for complications following orthopedic joint replacement; however, literature supporting this association is scarce. This study aims to discern how length of stay, cost of stay, and inpatient complications following total hip arthroplasty (THA) are impacted by presence of colostomy. ⋯ Retrospective cohort study.

Comparison of time courses in postoperative functional outcomes between simultaneous bilateral and unilateral total knee arthroplasty with propensity score matching.
No consensus has been reached on which is better in terms of functional outcomes between simultaneous bilateral and unilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA). As patient characteristics, such as age, sex, and body mass index, have significant effects on functional outcomes after TKA, these factors should be matched before comparisons are made. This study aimed to compare time courses in functional outcomes between simultaneous bilateral TKA and unilateral TKA after matching the patient characteristics. ⋯ Patients who underwent simultaneous bilateral TKA should undergo postoperative rehabilitation focused on alleviating delayed recovery in knee extensor strength during the acute phase.

Tibial implant design in primary TKA: retrospective comparison of two designs for the occurrence of radiolucent lines and aseptic loosening.
The purpose of this retrospective study was to study the effect of tibial implant design on the occurrence of radiolucent lines (RLLs) and aseptic loosening (AL) by comparing two different total knee arthroplasty (TKA) designs. ⋯ III.
