Orthogonal plating for complex olecranon fractures: retrospective case series with patient-reported outcomes.
Treatment for complex olecranon fractures with metaphyseal comminution can be challenging. To improve reduction maneuvers and augment stability, we apply a small medial and/or lateral locking compression plate (LCP) prior to placing a posterior contoured 3.5 mm-2.7 mm LCP. The aim is to describe our technique and outcomes of this "orthogonal" plating technique. ⋯ Orthogonal plating with a posterior LCP and a small medial and/or lateral LCP is a safe technique that leads to excellent healing rates, and good clinical and patient-reported outcomes.

Assessing the impact of distal femoral morphology using Citak's ratio: an independent risk factor for aseptic loosening in rotating hinge knee prosthesis.
Aseptic loosening (AL) is a frequent complication after rotating hinge knee (RHK) prosthesis. Citak's ratio has recently been developed to describe and classify distal femoral morphology into 3 groups (A, B, C). It consists in a ratio between the diameters of the femoral canal at 20 cm from the knee joint line and at 2 cm from the adductor tubercle. The objective of the study was to identify whether the femoral distal anatomical shape described with this ratio represents a risk factor for AL in RHK prosthesis. ⋯ The inner femoral diameter at 20 cm proximal to the knee joint line and Citak's ratio help indentify patients at risk of AL after RHK prosthesis, and thus a better planning of the surgery.

Cementless short stem total hip arthroplasty in patients older than 75 years: is it feasible?
In recent years, the indication for cementless short stem total hip arthroplasty (THA) has been widened to elderly patients as they might profit by the advantages of the short-curved implant design as well. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcome of a cementless short stem in elderly patients (≥ 75 years) compared to a young control group (≤ 60 years). ⋯ III Case-controlled study.

Specific tibial landmarks to improve to accuracy of the tibial cut during total knee arthroplasty. A case control study.
More personalized alignment techniques in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have recently been described particularly for the young and active patients. Performing the ideal tibial cut might be challenging with a conventional ancillary. Therefore the aims of this study were: (1) to describe specific tibial landmarks to optimize the tibial cut in TKA; (2) to compare the accuracy of the tibial cut with these landmarks compared to a conventional technique. ⋯ IV.

Total knee arthroplasty in schizophrenia patients: early complications and cost in a propensity-matched national database study.
Studies investigating the link between mental health disorders and complications following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have found worse outcomes in individuals with such disorders. Therefore, risk factors and outcomes following TKA in patients with schizophrenia should be better understood. This study aims to investigate cost and duration of hospital stay, inpatient complications, and mortality associated with TKA in patients with schizophrenia. ⋯ Schizophrenia patients had a significantly longer hospital stay and increased charges acquired during their stay compared to the control group following TKA. Acute renal failure, blood loss anemia, and pneumonia were medical complications with an increased risk following TKA in patients with schizophrenia in a matched analysis. Increased care during the perioperative period following TKA in individuals with schizophrenia is thus warranted.
