Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudySafety evaluation of outpatient vs inpatient unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the safety of outpatient and inpatient Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA) based on the incidence of adverse events. ⋯ In summary, outpatient UKA shows lower incidences of hospital-acquired complications such urinary tract infection, pulmonary embolus, and transfusion. It's worth noting that the incidences of total complications, readmission, and venous thrombosis in outpatient UKA were not higher than the incidences of inpatient UKA, suggestting that outpatient UKA can be considered a safe alternative to inpatient UKA.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyStem revision vs. internal fixation in vancouver B2/B3 periprosthetic hip fractures: systematic review and metanalysis.
Vancouver B2 and B3 periprosthetic fractures (PFF) are associated with stem instability and often require a demanding stem implant revision (SR) or internal fixation (ORIF). This latter surgery is increasingly performed in the last few years instead of SR, but it is unclear which is the best treatment to manage PFF patients. The aim of this study is the compare the outcomes of B2/B3 PFF managed by either ORIF or SR, by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis of current literature. ⋯ ORIF and SR were both suitable and effective options in PFF patients, being associated to similar complications rates. Our results show that ORIF performance in PFF patients is associated to significantly less in blood loss, surgical time and in-hospital stay. These advantages are particularly appealing in patients with multiple comorbidities.

Review Meta AnalysisEffect of extracorporeal shockwave therapy on plantar fascia thickness in plantar fasciitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has been used as a therapeutic option for plantar fasciitis. The objective was to investigate the effect of ESWT over the plantar fascia thickness. ⋯ Our results suggest that plantar fascia thickness is significantly decreased after ESWT intervention in patients with plantar fasciitis. However, pain relief was not significantly improved compared to other non-surgical interventions.

Not every knee tumour is a ganglion - retrospective analysis of benign and malign tumour entities around the knee.
Due to a lack of routine, there is often uncertainty regarding diagnostics of tumours around the knee joint. This study aimed to provide knowledge about the frequency, distribution and diagnostic algorithm of different bone and soft tissue tumour entities of the knee at a large referral university hospital in Germany. ⋯ Awareness is crucial for detecting rare and malignant tumours around the knee, with adipocytic tumours being the most common soft tissue tumour and chondrogenic tumours as the most prevalent malignant bone tumour. Accurate diagnosis of bone tumours necessitates radiographs and frequently an additional MRI scan, while soft tissue tumours require mandatory MRI scans. Incorrectly diagnosing a tumour can have severe consequences, emphasizing the need for histological confirmation in all cases. Additionally, malignant tumours within joint capsules in adults are infrequent.

Paratenon preserving techniques to facilitate acute Achilles tendon rupture repair (AATR) functions by maintaining vascularity and biology for optimal healing response. Therefore, the purpose is to evaluate the outcomes following paratenon preserving repair of the midsubstance AATR. The hypothesis was that paratenon-preserving techniques demonstrate high return to play rates and low complication rates for the repair of the midsubstance AATR. ⋯ Paratenon preserving techniques that are minimally invasive in nature demonstrated safe and favorable outcomes with high return to play rates and low complication rates for the repair of the midsubstance AATR.
