No shortening of the patellar tendon during two-stage total knee arthroplasty revision using articulating spacers.
Surgical techniques in two-stage revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) include the use of articulating spacers and static spacers. Shortening of the patellar tendon could be a reason for inferior functional outcomes in two-stage septic rTKA . The aim of this study was to determine if articulating spacers also have negative effects on the extensor mechanism in rTKA. ⋯ Septic two-stage revision TKA using an articulating spacer does not lead to patellar tendon shortening in the majority of cases. This study suggests that one reason for the improved range of motion after reimplantation may be the use of articulating spacers compared to static spacers.

Open plate fixation in displaced pediatric proximal humerus fractures is safe and leads to very good functional outcomes.
In displaced pediatric proximal humerus fractures (PHF), surgical treatment ranges from closed to open procedures. Soft tissue interposition can impede closed reduction, making open techniques necessary. While K-wire fixation and elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) lead to good results, plate fixation could be an alternative in patients with limited growth potential and highly unstable or insufficiently retained fractures. Only few studies with low sample sizes have assessed plate fixation, yet. In this study, the outcome of pediatric PHFs treated with plate fixation was evaluated. ⋯ Plate fixation is a safe option in pediatric patients with limited growth potential and highly displaced PHFs. Plate fixation led to a good to excellent functional outcome, regardless of fracture morphology and implant positioning. A higher invasiveness and the need for implant removal must be considered.

Short-term survival of the cementless triathlon total knee arthroplasty in a young patient cohort.
The purpose of this study is to assess the short-term survivorship of a new cementless total knee arthroplasty (TKA) design in comparison to its cemented predecessor design in a young patient cohort less than 65 years of age. ⋯ In a young patient cohort, the cementless Triathlon TKA demonstrates excellent survivorship at short-term follow-up with significant reductions in operative times when compared to the cemented Triathlon TKA.

Predictive and classification capabilities of the timed up and go as a physical performance measure in hip osteoarthritis: a retrospective study of 606 patients.
Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is a common joint pathology that significantly constrains functional capacity. Assessing the impact of hip OA on functionality is crucial for research and clinical practices. The study aimed to assess hip OA patients' functionality using the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and to evaluate its diagnostic ability to differentiate between different grades of hip OA. We hypothesized that the severity of hip OA would impact the time required to complete the TUG test. ⋯ This study provides evidence that the duration of the TUG test significantly increased with the severity of the disease. TUG can offer real-time data on the management and progression of hip OA. Future studies should explore the correlation between hip OA and the TUG test, as understanding the relationship can influence treatment and patient outcomes.

Adverse events related to robotic-assisted knee arthroplasty: a cross-sectional study from the MAUDE database.
Robotic-assisted surgical technique has been clinically available for decades, yet real-world adverse events (AEs) and complications associated with primary knee arthroplasty remain unclear. ⋯ Our analysis shows that while reported AEs might be increasing for RAKAs, the overall rate remains relatively low. Reassuringly, device malfunction was the most commonly AEs observed, with a minor impact on postoperative outcomes. Furthermore, our data provide a benchmark for patients, surgeons, and manufacturers to evaluate RAKA performance, though continued improvement in reducing serious AEs incidence is warranted.
