Case ReportsMesenchymal chondrosarcoma associated with Goldenhar's syndrome.
Goldenhar's syndrome is characterised by bony abnormalities of the face, jaw and vertebral column. We report the first case of the development of a primary malignant neoplasm (mesenchymal chondrosarcoma) initially misdiagnosed as a meningioma, occurring in association with this syndrome.

Comparative StudyRapid and simultaneous activation of Stat3 and production of interleukin 6 in resuscitated hemorrhagic shock.
The inflammatory response of the liver to hemorrhagic shock includes the production of acute phase proteins and a variety of mediators, such as the cytokine interleukin (IL)-6. The transcription of acute phase protein genes in hepatocytes has been shown to be activated by Stat3, one of six distinct signal transducers and activators of transcription (STAT) proteins. ⋯ In this study, we examined whether or not Stat3 was activated and IL-6 mRNA produced in the liver of rats subjected to hemorrhagic shock and whether or not both phases of shock, the ischemic and the resuscitation phases, were required. We report here that Stat3 activation and increased IL-6 expression required resuscitation and displayed identical kinetics following resuscitation, suggesting that liver production of IL-6 was responsible for liver Stat3 activation in hemorrhagic shock.

Comparative StudySusceptibility to local infection in biological internal fixation. Experimental study of open vs minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis in rabbits.
Resistance to local infection after fracture fixation with plate osteosynthesis may be influenced by the implantation technique. It is known that the extent of the surgical approach to the bone can compromise the local defence capacity. ⋯ The infection rate for the open surgical technique was 38.5% and that for the MIPO technique, 25%. This difference is not statistically significant (P > 0.05) suggesting that resistance to local infection associated with the MIPO method is at least equivalent to the open approach for plate osteosynthesis.

Case ReportsIsolated posterolateral dislocation of the radial head in a boy.
Isolated dislocation of the radial head in children is a rare injury. We report an isolated posterolateral dislocation of the radial head in a boy after a fall on the outstretched arm. Immediate closed reduction and early active motion achieved satisfactory results.

Case ReportsNon-union of undisplaced radial neck fracture in a rheumatoid patient.
Non-union of an undisplaced fracture of the radial neck in a rheumatoid patient is presented. Possible causes are discussed, and the literature reviewed.
