Long-term course of developmental dysplasia of the hip: follow-up of the non-operated hips of patients undergoing unilateral rotational acetabular osteotomy for twenty-four years.
To follow-up the non-operated hips of patients who underwent unilateral rotational acetabular osteotomy (RAO) for bilateral developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) for a minimum of 20 years to clarify (1) the timing of onset of hip osteoarthritis (OA) in DDH, and (2) factors associated with the development of OA. ⋯ The patients with OA progression group experienced OA onset at an average age of 55 years. A small LCEA (≤ 7°) was identified as a risk factor for the development of OA.

Quick and safe: why a k-wire-extension-block-fixation of a bony mallet finger is the favoured treatment.
Mallet fingers are the most common tendon injuries of the hand. Bony avulsion distal finger extensor tendon ruptures causing a mallet finger require special attention and management. In this monocentral study, we analyzed the clinical and individual outcomes succeeding minimal invasive k-wire extension block treatment of bony mallet fingers. ⋯ We conclude that the minimally invasive treatment of a bony mallet finger should be offered to every patient, because it is safe, fast, and reliable. Thus, we propose to perform extension-block pinning independently of the articular area.

Therapeutic approaches of diametaphyseal radius fractures in children.
There are clear standards for when to operate on both distal epiphyseal and diaphyseal forearm fractures in children. However, paediatric surgeons are often faced with fractures in the transition zone between metaphysis and diaphysis. This aim of the study is to compare different treatment approaches for diametaphyseal forearm fractures, to classify different types of these fractures, and to define further assessment parameters and treatment recommendations. ⋯ The description of diametaphyseal fractures as a separate entity is important, because the therapy of these fractures is heterogeneous and challenging. A classification into proximal, intermediate, and distal may be useful in clinical decision-making. Despite the retrospective nature of this study, our data suggest that the use of a K-wire or combined technique BCIM-KW-technique, whenever technically feasible, achieves better radiological results without secondary dislocation. Further prospective studies are needed to provide better guidance to trauma surgeons.

Areal bone mineral density is not associated with femoral stem subsidence in patients younger than 70 years undergoing total hip arthroplasty.
Femoral stem subsidence is a known complication after uncemented total hip arthroplasty (THA). The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of osteoporosis and to investigate the relationship between areal bone mineral density (aBMD) and subsidence in a cohort of patients younger than 70 years. ⋯ aBMD by DXA does not appear to be associated with stem subsidence in patients younger than 70 years and with adequate press fit.

Augmented reality-guided pelvic osteotomy of Ganz: feasibility in cadavers.
The periacetabular osteotomy is a technically demanding procedure with the goal to improve the osseous containment of the femoral head. The options for controlled execution of the osteotomies and verification of the acetabular reorientation are limited. With the assistance of augmented reality, new possibilities are emerging to guide this intervention. However, the scientific knowledge regarding AR navigation for PAO is sparse. ⋯ The planned correction can be achieved with promising accuracy and without serious errors. Further steps for a translation from the cadaver to the patient have been identified and must be addressed in future work.
