Are there associations between hip geometry and bone quality? An analysis on 3074 adults from a general population.
Patients with reduced bone mineral density and altered hip geometry are susceptible for hip pathologies. Knowledge on associations between bone properties and hip geometric parameters might facilitate identification of patients at risk for hip pathologies. The aim of the present study was to identify associations of bone properties assessed by quantitative ultrasound (QUS) at the heel and hip geometric parameters like center-edge angle (CE), neck-shaft angle (NSA) and alpha angle. ⋯ In the general population, several associations between QUS-based bone properties or fracture risk and hip geometry are present. Less dysplastic hips had a lower stiffness-index and a higher fracture risk, whereas more valgus hips had a lower fracture risk.

Precontoured dynamic compression plate using patient-specific 3D-printed models in minimally invasive surgical technique for midshaft clavicle fractures.
This study introduced a novel approach for the treatment of midshaft clavicle fractures, utilizing patient-specific 3D-printed models for accurate preoperative contouring of dynamic compression plates (DCPs) and an alternative minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) technique with precontoured DCPs through small vertical separated incisions. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that the use of a patient-specific precontoured DCP, in combination with 3D printing technology, provides accurate preoperative planning, effective fracture reduction, and improved postoperative outcomes in displaced midshaft clavicle fractures. The MIPO with a patient-specific precontoured DCP through separated vertical incisions along the Langer's lines appears to be a promising option, regarding appearance, avoiding associated complications, and obviating the need for reoperation. These results suggest that this technique has merit and can be a viable option for the treatment of midshaft clavicle fractures.

Analysis of acute extremity compartment syndrome using a genealogic population database.
Acute extremity compartment syndrome ("CS") is an under-researched, highly morbid condition affecting trauma populations. The purpose of this study was to analyze incidence rates and risk factors for extremity compartment syndrome using a high-quality population database. Additionally, we evaluated heritable risk for CS using available genealogic data. We hypothesized that diagnosis of extremity compartment syndrome would demonstrate heritability. ⋯ III.

Increased accuracy in component positioning using an image-less robotic arm system in primary total knee arthroplasty: a retrospective study.
Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RTKA) and navigated total knee arthroplasty (NTKA) have shown improved knee alignment and reduced radiographic outliers. Recent studies have proven that conventional mechanical alignment may not be the optimal goal for every patient. The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of the planned implant positioning of a novel image-less robotic technique with an established navigated technique (NTKA). ⋯ The RTKA group reported a substantial and significant reduced error from the planned target angles for both tibial and femoral components. No difference in terms of radiographic outliers was noted between navigation and robotic assistance.
