ReviewTotal hip arthroplasty in acute acetabulum fractures: a systematic review.
The incidence of acetabular fractures has increased significantly in recent years due to demographic change. It can be divided into high-energy acetabular fractures primarily seen in adult patients versus geriatric patients mostly suffering from low-energy trauma. Historically, acetabular fractures have been treated either non-operatively or surgically following open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), whereas nowadays total hip arthroplasty (THA) provides a true alternative. Aim of this study was to perform a systematic review on the outcome following THA in acute acetabulum fractures. ⋯ Level 2, systematic review.

Meta AnalysisO-POSSUM and P-POSSUM as predictors of morbidity and mortality in older patients after hip fracture surgery: a meta-analysis.
The POSSUM model has been widely used to predict morbidity and mortality after general surgery. Modified versions known as O-POSSUM and P-POSSUM have been used extensively in orthopedic surgery, but their accuracy is unclear. This systematic review evaluated the predictive value of these models in older patients with hip fractures. ⋯ While O-POSSUM shows reasonable accuracy in predicting postoperative morbidity in older patients with hip fractures, both P-POSSUM and O-POSSUM substantially overestimate postoperative mortality. The POSSUM model should be optimized further for this patient population.

Randomized Controlled TrialSingle-injection nerve blocks for total knee arthroplasty: femoral nerve block versus femoral triangle block versus adductor canal block-a randomized controlled double-blinded trial.
Femoral nerve block (FNB) is a well-established analgesic technique for TKA. However, it associates quadriceps weakness. Therefore, femoral triangle block (FTB) and adductor canal block (ACB) were proposed as effective alternative motor-spearing techniques. The primary objective was to compare quadriceps muscle strength preservation between FNB, FTB and ACB in TKA. The secondary objective was to analyze pain control and functional outcomes. ⋯ This study was registered in clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03518450; https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03518450 ; submitted March 17, 2018).

A novel geometrical planning method to restore knee joint obliquity in double-level osteotomies.
Precise preoperative planning is mandatory when a double-level osteotomy (DLO) is required to correct a severe knee deformity. Literature does not report a validated planning method regarding DLO that could be performed directly on digital radiographs using simple measurement tools. This study aims to validate a novel DLO planning method called New Mikulicz-Joint Line (NM-JL) based on essential measurement tools, in which the correction angles are induced by the predicted post-operative joint line obliquity (JLO). ⋯ Level IV.
