Hidden blood loss and its risk factors in percutaneous vertebroplasty surgery for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.
Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is a percutaneous interventional procedure for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs). However, hidden blood loss (HBL) during the surgery is easily disregarded. This study aimed to evaluate HBL and its possible risk factors in the patients following PVP for OVCFs. ⋯ Multiple vertebral fractures, higher degree of vertebral height restoration, longer surgical time, more number of puncture, and cement leakage are independent risk factors for HBL. Therefore, HBL should not be neglected in the patients with OVCFs undergoing PVP surgery, especially in those with poor preoperative physical condition and presence of anemia.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe anatomical location of cystic pseudotumors and muscle atrophy in metal-on-metal resurfacing hip arthroplasty is related to the surgical approach used for implantation. A subgroup analyses of a randomized controlled trial.
Pseudotumors and muscle atrophy have been associated with metal-on-metal (MoM) resurfacing hip arthroplasty (RHA). We aimed to investigate the influence of the anterolateral (AntLat) and the posterior (Post) surgical approach on the location, grade and prevalence of pseudotumors and muscle atrophy in MoM RHA. ⋯ Muscle atrophy and pseudotumor location after MoM RHA follow the surgical approach used for implantation. This knowledge may help differentiate between "normal postoperative appearance" and "MoM disease."

The minimally invasive Chevron Akin (MICA) osteotomy has been widely used to treat hallux valgus (HV). The purpose of this study was to present a case series of patients with severe HV undergoing surgical treatment using the MICA procedure and to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes. ⋯ IV; case series.

One-stage revision versus debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) for acute prosthetic knee infection: an exploratory cohort study.
Studies have shown that debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) is an effective procedure for acute infection of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to explore DAIR and one-stage revision for homogenous cohorts with acute postoperative and acute hematogenous infection of TKA, without compelling indications to perform a staged revision. ⋯ This study would suggest the use of one-stage revision over DAIR for acute postoperative and acute hematogenous infection of TKA. It suggests that there could be other potential criteria which have not been ascertained that need to be considered for optimal DAIR selection. The study indicates the need for more research and, of note, high-quality randomized controlled trials to provide a well-defined treatment protocol with high level of evidence to guide patient selection for DAIR.
