Morphological study of CT image of posterior pilon variant fracture and its possible clinical significance.
The incidence of posterior pilon variant fractures has been underestimated. The purpose was to study the characteristics of posteromedial (PM) and posterolateral (PL) fragments in CT imaging of posterior pilon variant fractures, and to provide help for clinical diagnosis and treatment. ⋯ The morphology of pilon subtype was larger than that of avulsion subtype. According to fragment size, morphology, and injury mechanism, two fragments of pilon subtype should be anatomic reduction and fixation. However, the PL fragment of avulsion subtype should to be fixed, while PM fragment may only need conservative treatment.

Value of postoperative computed tomography for the diagnosis of lateral hinge fracture in medial opening-wedge supramalleolar osteotomy.
It remains unclear whether computed tomography (CT) is superior to plain radiography in detecting lateral hinge fractures after medial opening-wedge supramalleolar osteotomy (SMO) of the ankle joint. This study aimed to evaluate the disparity between postoperative plain radiography and CT in detecting lateral hinge fractures after medial opening-wedge SMO and to identify the predictive factors of lateral hinge fractures. ⋯ Postoperative CT after medial opening-wedge SMO has no additional diagnostic value if the lateral hinge fracture has already been diagnosed on plain radiography. Therefore, postoperative CT is only recommended when lateral hinge fractures are not visible on plain radiographs.

To date there is no generally accepted specific definition or classification of acromioclavicular (AC) joint osteoarthritis. The aim of this study is to analyze morphological parameters using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to develop a scoring system as a basis for decision making to perform an AC-joint resection. ⋯ Level IV, retrospective diagnostic study.

Advanced quantitative 3D imaging improves the reliability of the classification of acetabular defects.
Classifying complex acetabular defects in revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) by means of conventional radiographs comes with significant limitations. Statistical shape modelling allows the virtual reconstruction of the native pelvic morphology, hereby enabling an analytic acetabular defect assessment. Our objective was to evaluate the effect of advanced imaging augmented with analytic representations of the defect on (1) intra- and inter-rater reliability, and (2) up- or downscaling of classification scores when evaluating acetabular defects in patients undergoing revision THA. ⋯ Using 3D CT imaging with statistical shape models doubles the intra- and inter-rater reliability and results in upscaling of acetabular defect classification when compared to standard radiographs. This method of evaluating defects will aid in planning surgical reconstruction and stimulate the development of new classification systems based on advanced imaging techniques.
