Case ReportsSurgical treatment of a symptomatic os acromiale by arthroscopy-assisted double-button fixation: a case report.
We present the case of a symptomatic os acromiale in a 51-year-old female patient. Arthroscopy-assisted treatment was performed using a double-button fixation system and additional suture cerclage. The patient presented with complete radiographic bone union, pain relief, improved range of motion and did not require hardware removal at the 12-month follow-up. ⋯ The achievement of persistent consolidation between the two fragmented bone surfaces, without further need for hardware removal and improved clinical outcome, suggests that our minimally invasive technique is appropriate for this specific indication. To our knowledge, this technique has not been described in the literature yet.

Preoperative ferritin and hemoglobin levels are lower in patients with a history of COVID-19 but blood loss and transfusion requirements are not increased.
A history of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) may have an impact on hemoglobin and ferritin levels predisposing patients to increased blood transfusion requirements following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). The current study compares ferritin levels, hemoglobin levels, and transfusion rates between SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive and SARS-CoV-2 IgG negative TJA patients. ⋯ Although preoperative hemoglobin and ferritin levels are lower in SARS-CoV2 IgG positive patients, there was no difference in hemoglobin on POD one, recovery of hemoglobin levels at four-six weeks postoperatively, and transfusion rates after surgery. Routine ferritin testing prior to TJA is not recommended in SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive patients.

Incidence and clinical results of tendinous injuries in calcaneus and pilon fractures.
The aims of this study were: (1) to define the incidence of tendinous injuries in calcaneus and pilon fractures with different fracture severity and (2) to determine the clinical impact of such injuries. ⋯ Level 3 retrospective study.

Prevalence and pattern of lateral impingements in the progressive collapsing foot deformity.
The prevalence of lateral bony impingements [i.e., Sinus Tarsi (STI), Talo-Fibular (TFI) and Calcaneo-Fibular (CFI)] and their association with Peritalar Subluxation (PTS) have not been clearly established for progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD).This study aims to assess the prevalence of STI, TFI and CFI in PCFD, in addition to their association with PTS. We hypothesized that STI and TFI would be more prevalent than CFI. ⋯ STI and TFI were more prevalent than CFI in PCFD. However, only STI was associated with PTS. Conversely, CFI was associated with less PTS, suggesting a different pathological mechanism which could be a compensatory subtalar behavior caused by deep layer failure of the deltoid ligament and talar tilt.

How does sleep apnea impact outcomes following primary total hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fractures: a matched-control analysis.
Cross-sectional studies have demonstrated that the prevalence of sleep apnea (SA) to be increasing within the United States. While studies have shown the association of SA and its association on complications following elective orthopedic procedures, well-powered studies investigating its impact in a traumatic setting are limited. The purpose of this study was to determine whether SA patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) for femoral neck fractures have higher rates of: (1) hospital lengths of stay (LOS); (2) readmissions; (3) complications; and (4) healthcare expenditures. ⋯ III.
