Treatment of anterior knee pain due to chondromalacia patellae with platelet-rich plasma and hyaluronic acid in young and middle-aged adults, a cohort study.
Anterior knee pain commonly affects young women resulting in the declination of the quality of life. One of the possible pathologies causing this symptom is chondromalacia patellae (CMP). Although CMP is used to describe the softening of patellar articular cartilage, it remains a general descriptive term as it cannot be associated with a specific pathophysiologic mechanism. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of injectable PRP on patients with anterior knee pain in absence of altered patellofemoral joint anatomy. ⋯ The main results of this study affirm the positive effects of PRP and HA for the treatment of anterior knee pain described by previous research and the subsequent improvement of the quality of life. Relatively little information was found in the literature search regarding the therapeutic effects of PRP on anterior knee pain and chondropathies. While a previous radiologic study found no evidence regarding the effect of PRP, this study found a benefit when comparing PROMs between patient groups.

Increased rate of injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament in amateur soccer players after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
The COVID-19 pandemic led to the discontinuation of soccer activities at all levels of play. Injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are still one of the most severe injuries in soccer. The aim of this investigation was to analyze the changes in the incidence and mechanism of ACL injuries in professional and amateur soccer before and after the lockdown period. ⋯ The absence from training and match practice in German soccer during the COVID-19 lockdown led to a significantly increased ACL injury rate in amateur leagues, while in professional and semi-professional soccer no differences were reported. The mechanism of ACL injuries did not change after the lockdown period. Level of evidence: II.

Convertible glenoid replacement in the anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty: medium-term results.
The older generation of high thickness metal-backed glenoid prostheses had a high failure rate. The goal of our study was to analyze the medium-term clinical and radiological results of a technically modified generation of metal backed glenoids with 35% decrease in thickness. ⋯ Favorable clinical results can be achieved, especially in patients with an eccentric glenoid type. Severe preoperative glenoid erosion (Walch A2, B2, B3) does not appear to have any influence on postoperative functional results. The complication and revision rates are significantly better than in previous studies with conventional metal-backed glenoid components. Conversion of the anatomical glenoid component to a reverse system was always possible and good clinical results were achieved.

Functional outcome after bicompartmental knee replacement for medial and patellofemoral osteoarthritis.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is used for tricompartmental knee osteoarthritis, while unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is preferred for unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis. Bicompartmental knee arthroplasty (BKA) aims to address 2 knee compartments by combining 2 UKA's or 1 UKA with a patellofemoral replacement. This study examines the clinical outcomes of BKA, focusing on pain alleviation and knee function. The aim of this study is to report the functional outcome of BKA and see if this aligns with BKA outcomes from literature in terms of patient reported outcome measurements (PROMs) and range of motion (ROM) after a 2-year follow-up. Additionally, radiographic alignment, implant survivorship, adverse events and length of stay are secondary outcomes. ⋯ BKA shows promise in alleviating pain and improving knee function in patients with medial and patellofemoral osteoarthritis. Challenges include the risk of revision and technical difficulties during surgery. Comparative studies suggest similar outcomes between BKA and TKA, with potential advantages for younger, more active patients. Further research, particularly randomized trials with larger cohorts, is necessary to elucidate the long-term benefits and drawbacks of BKA compared to other knee arthroplasty options.

Review Meta AnalysisEfficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma and hyaluronic acid combination therapy for knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study aimed to evaluate whether a combination of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) is more effective and safer than injection alone for treating KOA. ⋯ PRP + HA therapy resulted in more pronounced pain and functional improvement in symptomatic KOA patients than HA treatments, and combination therapy may have higher clinical safety than PRP or HA monotherapy.
