Meta Analysis Comparative StudyCemented versus cementless Oxford unicompartmental knee arthroplasty for the treatment of medial knee osteoarthritis: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis.
This meta-analysis sought to compare the efficacy of cemented versus cementless Oxford unicompartmental knee arthroplasty(UKA) for the treatment of medial knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ The findings indicated that, in comparison to cemented Oxford UKA, cementless Oxford UKA resulted in a reduction in surgical time, an improvement in knee OKS score, KSS clinical score, and KSS functional score, and a decrease in the incidence of periprosthetic radiolucent lines and the rate of revisions.

Predictive and classification capabilities of the timed up and go as a physical performance measure in hip osteoarthritis: a retrospective study of 606 patients.
Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is a common joint pathology that significantly constrains functional capacity. Assessing the impact of hip OA on functionality is crucial for research and clinical practices. The study aimed to assess hip OA patients' functionality using the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and to evaluate its diagnostic ability to differentiate between different grades of hip OA. We hypothesized that the severity of hip OA would impact the time required to complete the TUG test. ⋯ This study provides evidence that the duration of the TUG test significantly increased with the severity of the disease. TUG can offer real-time data on the management and progression of hip OA. Future studies should explore the correlation between hip OA and the TUG test, as understanding the relationship can influence treatment and patient outcomes.

Total knee replacement with an accelerometer-based, hand-held navigation system improves knee alignment: reliable in all patients.
Achieving adequate alignment has traditionally been an important goal in total knee arthroplasty to achieve long-term implant survival. While accelerometer-based hand-held navigation systems (ABN) has been introduced as a way to achieve alignment, there is a limited body of evidence on its accuracy, especially in patients under 65 years with differing etiologies for knee arthritis. This study aimed to assess the precision of a specific ABN system in restoring the mechanical axis and report surgical variables and complications, with particular attention to younger patients. ⋯ The ABN system proved to be user-friendly and accurate in reducing alignment outliers in both coronal and sagittal planes in all patient populations. It offers a straightforward navigation solution while preserving surgeon autonomy and the use of traditional surgical tools. These findings advocate for the integration of this navigation system as a valuable tool to enhance the precision of TKA surgery in all patient groups.

Adverse events related to robotic-assisted knee arthroplasty: a cross-sectional study from the MAUDE database.
Robotic-assisted surgical technique has been clinically available for decades, yet real-world adverse events (AEs) and complications associated with primary knee arthroplasty remain unclear. ⋯ Our analysis shows that while reported AEs might be increasing for RAKAs, the overall rate remains relatively low. Reassuringly, device malfunction was the most commonly AEs observed, with a minor impact on postoperative outcomes. Furthermore, our data provide a benchmark for patients, surgeons, and manufacturers to evaluate RAKA performance, though continued improvement in reducing serious AEs incidence is warranted.

ReviewTotal knee arthroplasty survivorship and outcomes in young patients: a review of the literature and 40-year update to a longitudinal study.
Growing numbers of younger patients are electing to undergo total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for end-stage osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study was to compare established literature regarding TKA outcomes in patients under age 55, to data from an ongoing longitudinal young patient cohort curated by our study group. Further, we aimed to provide a novel update on survivorship at 40 years post-TKA from our longitudinal cohort. ⋯ Young TKA patients demonstrated improved functionality at each follow-up time point assessed. Survivorship decreased with increasing lengths of follow-up, ultimately ranging from 52.1-65.3% at 40 years post-TKA. The paucity of literature on long-term TKA outcomes in this patient population reinforces the necessity of further research on this topic.
