ReviewInfluence of axial limb rotation on radiographic lower limb alignment: a systematic review.
The influence of limb malrotation on long-leg radiographs (LLR) is frequently discussed in literature. This systematic review aimed to describe the influence of limb rotation on alignment measurements alone and in combination with knee flexion, and determine its clinical impact. ⋯ Malrotation is frequently present on LLR, possibly influencing the measured alignment especially in knees with extension deficit. Surgeons must consider this when measuring and treating deformities (high tibial osteotomy or total knee arthroplasties), and analyzing surgical outcomes. Especially in patients with osteoarthritis with knee extension deficits or postoperative swelling, the effect of malrotation is significantly greater.

Evaluation of the balance function before and after total knee arthroplasty using Berg balance scale.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate balance function before and after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) using Berg balance scale (BBS). The study also aimed to identify factors associated with balance impairment. ⋯ While TKA significantly improved BBS scores, 10% of the patients remained at a risk for multiple falls. RA, lower pre-operative BBS score, and post-operative knee flexion contracture greater than 10° retained balance impairment even after TKA.

ReviewThere is no difference in the complication or re-operation rates between tension band wiring and locking plate fixation for olecranon fractures. The findings of a multicentre study.
Tension band wire (TBW) and locking plate fixation (LPF) are widely used fixation methods for displaced fractures of the olecranon. The aim of our study was to review the current operative management of olecranon fractures and compare the complication and re-operation rates for patients undergoing TBW and LPF. ⋯ LPF has previously been advocated to be advantageous to TBW due to lower reported complication and re-operation rates despite there being no significant difference in functional outcomes. In this multicentre case series, which is the largest in the literature to date, we did not observe any significant differences in complication rates or re-operation rates between the two, even amongst comminuted fractures (which are traditionally treated with LPF), when decision making was left to surgeon preference. We, therefore, recommend that choice of fixation method should be left to individual surgeon's preference.

Do pre-operative radiologic assessment predict postoperative outcomes in patients with insertional Achilles tendinopathy?: a retrospective database study.
Diagnosis and treatment of insertional tendinopathy of the Achilles tendon (IAT) remains a challenge. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of pre-operative radiological pathologies on the patient-reported outcomes following open debridement of all pathologies for IAT. ⋯ In this retrospective correlation study, no significant association was found between preoperative radiographic and MRI radiologic parameters for IAT and postoperative patient-reported outcomes (VISA-A-G and SF-12).

Incidence and predictors of blood transfusions in one-stage bilateral total hip arthroplasty: a single center prospective cohort study.
The safety of performing one-stage bilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains controversial among the orthopedic community. The aim of the present study was to determine the incidence and predictors of blood transfusions in one-stage bilateral THA performed in a high-volume single center. ⋯ The incidence of blood transfusions after one-stage bilateral THA is low in non-anemic patients operated on at a high-volume arthroplasty center. The main predictors of blood transfusions are preoperative Hb level and BMI.
