Preserved periprosthetic bone stock at 5 years post-operatively with uncemented short hip stem in both collared and collarless version.
Previous bone density studies have generally shown bone resorption around both cemented and uncemented total hip arthroplasty (THA) stems. This is presumed to be due to stress shielding. Short stems have been introduced partly to preserve bone in the proximal femur by a more physiological loading of the bone. The purpose of this study was to evaluate bone remodeling around a short, fully hydroxyapatite-coated titanium stem that comes in a collared and collarless version. ⋯ This short stem seems to preserve proximal bone stock up to 5 years, exhibiting similar behaviour both with and without a collar.

Should the location of distal tibial plating be influenced by the varus or valgus fracture pattern of tibial pilon fracture?
Operative treatment of tibial pilon fracture is challenging. There is a lack of consensus and only one clinical study on the optimal location of distal tibial plating for fixation of pilon fractures based on varus or valgus fracture patterns. We hypothesize that complications rates, specifically mechanical complications, are not influenced by the location of the tibial plating in the fixation of pilon fractures with respect to varus or valgus fracture patterns. ⋯ There were no differences in mechanical complications for medial vs lateral plating in tibial pilon fracture based on varus or valgus deforming forces. As much as we should consider the fracture patterns and deforming forces when deciding on plating location, other factors such as careful soft tissue management and fragment-specific fixation should be prioritized.

Comparison of different treatments for children with radial neck fracture and analysis of prognostic factors.
The aim of this was to analyze the effect of different treatment options on radial neck fractures in children and to explore the factors affecting the prognosis of fractures. ⋯ Different treatment options have different efficacies for radial neck fractures in children, of which manipulative reduction with internal fixation using ESINs can achieve good efficacy and a low postoperative complication rate. Age, duration of hospitalization, and preoperative angulation are independent factors for postoperative complications.

Does intraoperative periprosthetic occult fracture of the acetabulum affect clinical outcomes after primary total hip arthroplasty?
The frequency of intraoperative periprosthetic occult fracture of the acetabulum (IPOA) in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) is relatively high. However, the effect of this fracture on clinical outcome and survival of primary THA remains unknown. This study aimed to determine the impact of IPOA on the outcomes of primary THA during a minimum follow-up of 5 years. ⋯ Primary THA with IPOA provides favorable mid- to long-term outcomes. On IPOA diagnosis, although radiographic follow-up is necessary, additional treatments or rehabilitation programs are not required. Furthermore, postoperative computed tomography images for the detection of IPOA may be unnecessary.

Patellar height after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: comparison between fixed and mobile bearing.
The purpose of this study was to determine the changes in patellar heights by comparing standardised pre- and post-operative radiographs in a consecutive series of patients undergoing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) with two different approaches and implant designs [fixed bearing (FB) vs mobile bearing (MB)] and to correlate the patellar heights with clinical outcomes. ⋯ Researchregistry6433- www.researchregistry.com .
