Randomized Controlled TrialBiomechanical stability of complex coronal plane fracture fixation of the capitellum.
Coronal plane fractures of the distal humerus are relatively rare and can be challenging to treat due to their complexity and intra-articular nature. There is no gold standard for surgical management of these complex fractures. The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical stability and strength of two different internal fixation techniques for complex coronal plane fractures of the capitellum with posterior comminution. ⋯ Biomechanical study.

Traumatic shoulder instability most frequently occurs in young people often during sports events. Currently, the arthroscopic Bankart repair is the therapy of choice in the absence of extensive glenoid bone loss and has proved to be a safe and effective procedure. Nevertheless, we see recurrence of instability-especially if new trauma happens-and further data are needed to guide the right decision-making for these often young patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the long-term outcome 10 years after arthroscopic Bankart operation in terms of satisfaction of the patient, functional result, complications, recurrent instability, and development of osteoarthritis, and to look after possible risk factors for recurrence of instability and statistical proof of these. ⋯ The arthroscopic Bankart stabilization procedure showed after 10 years to be a very safe operation and to be able to produce a satisfying and functional very good long-term result-reflected by the Constant score. We assume that the extent of osteoarthritis seems to be the determining factor of the very good functional result, even though ongoing instability was present in 15.3% of the patients.

The talar body prosthesis treated end-stage ankle arthritis with talar body deficient: a 6-13 years of follow-up outcomes and 6-year survivorship.
Talar body deficient provides a unique challenge for ankle arthritis treatment. We studied the clinical-radiographic outcomes at 6 to 13 years and 6 year prosthesis survivorship of patients treated for ankle arthritis with poor talar body bone stock using a talar body prosthesis (TBP). ⋯ IV.

Measuring standing hindfoot alignment: reliability of different approaches in conventional x-ray and cone-beam CT.
Currently there is no consensus how hindfoot alignment (HA) should be assessed in CBCT scans. The aim of this study is to investigate how the reliability is affected by the anatomical structures chosen for the measurement. ⋯ It could be shown that reliability of measuring HA depends on the investigated anatomical structure. Placing a tangent along the calcaneus (2, 3, 5, 6, 7) was shown to be unreliable, whereas determining the weight-bearing heel point (1, 4) appeared to be a reliable approach. The correlation of the measurement workflows is significant (p = 0.036), but too weak (0.272) to be used clinically.

Telemedicine visits generate accurate surgical plans across orthopaedic subspecialties.
The role of telemedicine is rapidly evolving across medical specialties and orthopaedics. The utility of telemedicine to identify operative candidates and determine surgical plans has yet to be demonstrated. We sought to assess whether surgical plans proposed following telemedicine visits changed after subsequent in-person interaction across orthopaedic subspecialties. ⋯ Level IV, retrospective cohort study.
