Results after spica cast immobilization following hip reconstruction in 95 cases: is there a need for alternative techniques?
Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), neurogenic dysplasia of the hip (NDH), and Perthes disease often require surgical treatment. Spica casting is a common postoperative immobilization. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the complications related to the immobilization. ⋯ Evidence level level IV, case series.

Local bone quality measure and construct failure prediction: a biomechanical study on distal femur fractures.
The aim of this investigation was to better understand the differences in local bone quality at the distal femur and their correlation with biomechanical construct failure, with the intention to identify regions of importance to optimize implant anchorage. ⋯ The local bone quality at the distal femur indicates that in plated distal femur fractures the distal posterior screw holes seem to be the key ones and should be occupied. Measurement of the local bone strength with DensiProbe™ is one possibility to determine the risk of construct failure, therefore, thresholds need to be defined.

Similar biomechanical properties of four tripled tendon graft models for ACL reconstruction.
The present study tested and compared the biomechanical properties of four different triplicate graft tendon techniques. ⋯ This study reported similar biomechanical behavior of four different models of tripled grafts suitable for ACL reconstruction. In addition, the biomechanics of overall tripled tendon grafts seems more affected by the viscoelastic property of the tendon itself rather than the preparation method.

Variations of cross-sectional meniscal morphology between similar-sized menisci: implications on donor selection for meniscal allograft transplantation.
This study aimed to investigate the morphological variations in the cross-sectional anatomy of the meniscus between similar-sized matched menisci. ⋯ Retrospective study, Level III.

Review Meta AnalysisDifferences between simple trapeziectomy and trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition for the treatment of trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The optimal management of trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis remains controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the subjective and objective outcomes and complications of simple trapeziectomy (T) versus trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (T + LRTI). ⋯ While the T + LRTI group demonstrated a better effect in grip and tip pinch strength at the one-year follow-up, there was no statistical difference in key pinch strength, pain relief, and DASH. Furthermore, T + LRTI has more latrogenic injury, more short-term postoperative complications, and higher surgical costs. Considered comprehensively, if there is no special strength requirement, we recommend simple trapeziectomy.
