Short-term survival of the cementless triathlon total knee arthroplasty in a young patient cohort.
The purpose of this study is to assess the short-term survivorship of a new cementless total knee arthroplasty (TKA) design in comparison to its cemented predecessor design in a young patient cohort less than 65 years of age. ⋯ In a young patient cohort, the cementless Triathlon TKA demonstrates excellent survivorship at short-term follow-up with significant reductions in operative times when compared to the cemented Triathlon TKA.

Case ReportsBilateral ST-coalition with thumb hypoplasia and scaphoid synchondrosis.
Carpal coalitions are rare wrist anomalies and are most often diagnosed incidentally. Due to their infrequent occurrence, there is a lack of treatment guidelines in the literature. We present a case study of a 13-year-old boy who presented with symptomatic synchondrosis in both scaphoids along with a bilateral osseous coalition between the scaphoid and trapezium bones in combination with bilateral thumb hypoplasia. We initiated a 10-week immobilization of the wrist, followed by gradual increasing weight-bearing. ⋯ For young patients, we suggest initiating conservative treatment as the first option. A precise analysis of the pathology and wrist kinematics is mandatory to recommend further therapy especially if operative interventions might be considered.

A novel radiological index uses the inner canal diameter and the Citak classification index to predict risk factor for aseptic loosening following hinged total knee arthroplasty.
It remains unclear if distal femoral morphology should be a key consideration when selecting the implant or fixation strategy. A novel radiological index has been proposed to classify patients' distal femoral morphology. This study aims to evaluate the validity of this classification system in a cohort of patients undergoing hinged Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA), and to determine if distal femoral morphology is a risk factor for aseptic loosening or all cause revision following hinged TKA. ⋯ Distal femoral morphology plays an important role in the risk of aseptic loosening following hinged knee replacement, and should be considered when deciding implant type and fixation in these patients.

Sport and sexual recovery after total hip arthroplasty in young adults: a retrospective cohort study.
Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) is the main treatment for end-stage degenerative hip arthrosis in the elderly, while became increasingly performed as treatment of secondary arthrosis in younger patients, a population at high functional requests in terms of resumption of physical activity and resumption of sexual activity. This study evaluates the physical, sports recovery and the sexual quality of life in young patients undergoing primary THA. ⋯ Primary THA surgery in young adults can improve the level of physical activity and promote the involvement of subjects in moderate impact sports. Patients showed a better quality of sexual life compared to the preoperative period, an effect more evident in female patients.

Intraoperative fluoroscopic confirmation of the knee improves the accuracy of stem anteversion in total hip arthroplasty with direct anterior approach using traction table.
Stem anteversion (SA) in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is crucial for postoperative outcomes, affecting dislocation risk and hip function. Accurate SA placement is challenged by intraoperative estimation methods, with discrepancies reported between predicted and true SA. This study investigates the effect of conventional methods and intraoperative fluoroscopic confirmation on SA accuracy in THA performed with a direct anterior approach using a traction table. ⋯ Intraoperative fluoroscopic confirmation of knee external rotation angle markedly decreases the proportion of excessive SA and enhances the precision of stem placement in THA with a direct anterior approach. This technique represents a significant advancement in surgical practice, offering a simple and effective method to achieve optimal postoperative results.
