ReviewRadial nerve palsy associated with closed humeral shaft fractures: a systematic review of 1758 patients.
Humeral shaft fractures are often associated with radial nerve palsy (RNP) (8-16%). The primary aim of this systematic review was to assess the incidence of primary and secondary RNP in closed humeral shaft fractures. The secondary aim was to compare the recovery rate of primary RNP and the incidence of secondary RNP between operative and non-operative treatment. ⋯ Level IV; Systematic Review.

Risk factors for mechanical failure of intertrochanteric fractures after fixation with proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA II): a study in a Southeast Asian population.
Intertrochanteric hip fractures pose a significant health problem. The proximal femur nail anti-rotation (PFNA IIDePuySynthes) is the most commonly used implant for intramedullary nailing of unstable intertrochanteric fractures at our institution. We aim to identify the risk factors predisposing to mechanical failure of intertrochanteric hip fractures fixation with PFNAII in our Southeast Asian population. ⋯ To avoid mechanical failure, one should aim to achieve a good quality of reduction and centre blade position on lateral hip X-ray. Tip apex distance did not predict mechanical failure in our study.

Risk adapted diagnostics and hospitalization following mild traumatic brain injury.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a leading cause of hospital admission and mortality, intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) presents a severe complication. Low complication tolerance in developed countries and risk uncertainty, often cause excessive observation, diagnostics and hospitalization, considered unnecessary and expensive. Risk factors predicting ICH, progression and death in patients hospitalized with mild TBI have not been identified yet. ⋯ Age, skull fracture and chronic alcohol abuse require vigilant observation. Repeated CT in initially ICH negative cases should only be considered in newly identified high-risk patients. Non-ICH cases aged < 65 years do not gain safety from observation or hospitalization. Recommendations from our data might, without impact on patient safety, reduce costs by unnecessary hospitalization and diagnostics.

Preliminary clinical results of coated porous tibia cones in septic and aseptic revision knee arthroplasty.
To analyze the first results of calcium-phosphate-coated porous tibia cones. ⋯ This study shows the initial clinical results of calcium-phosphate-coated tibia cones showing a good functional outcome. Further research should focus on long-term clinical and radiological follow-up.

Is limited shoulder abduction associated with poor scapulothoracic mobility after reverse shoulder arthroplasty?
The contribution of the glenohumeral joint to shoulder abduction is acknowledged as an important factor for reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) patients. In contrast, the degree of scapulothoracic joint contribution and its relation to RTSA patients with poor to excellent shoulder abduction are unclear. ⋯ Limited shoulder abduction is not associated with insufficient scapulothoracic mobility, which rather provides a basic level of function for RTSA patients. Good to excellent shoulder abduction could only be achieved by increasing the glenohumeral contribution that was associated with postoperative abduction strength.
