The potential of locking plate with intramedullary fibular allograft to manage proximal humeral fracture with an unstable medial column.
To evaluate the potential of locking compression plate with intramedullary fibular allograft in managing proximal humeral fractures with an unstable medial column. ⋯ In patients aged over 65 years with proximal humeral fractures, an unstable medial column was associated with poor clinical results owing to varus collapse. To prevent this, an intramedullary fibular allograft was used, and radiologic and clinical results were better with this approach than with a locking plate alone. Therefore, locking plate fixation using a fibular allograft is one of the possible treatments for patients with an unstable medial column.

Mortality rates for hip fracture patients managed surgically and conservatively in a dedicated unit in Singapore.
At our hospital, an unusually high proportion of patients and families opted for conservative management of hip fractures. This study aimed to compare the mortality rates of patients with hip fractures treated conservatively to that of operatively managed patients in a dedicated hip fracture unit. ⋯ IV.

Randomized Controlled TrialCosmetic outcomes and patient satisfaction compared between staples and subcuticular suture technique for wound closure after primary total knee arthroplasty: a randomized controlled trial.
Staples and subcuticular suture are commonly used wound closure techniques after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). To date, only a few studies have investigated the differences between these two wound closure methods in TKA. Accordingly, this study aimed to compare cosmetic outcome and patient satisfaction between staples and subcuticular suture for post-TKA wound closure. ⋯ Subcuticular suture and staples were found to be comparable wound-closure options after TKA relative to cosmetic outcome, patient satisfaction, functional outcome, and wound complication rate at 3-months post-operation.

Review Meta AnalysisGap balancing versus measured resection for primary total knee arthroplasty: a meta-analysis study.
To achieve the most desirable post-operative results, operation techniques and procedures for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are highly standardized. However, debates persist whether patients having undergone a gap balancing technique (GB) perform better than those having undergone measured resection (MR) technique. Therefore, a meta-analysis study was conducted to investigate advantages of GB compared to the MR. The focus of the present study was on clinical and functional scores, radiological measurements and further complications. ⋯ GB and MR achieve similar outcomes for TKA. In the GB group, a proximalisation of the joint line and extended operating time was detected. Regarding the additional outcomes of interest, the present analysis showed comparability between both groups, MR and GB.
